Cholesterol levels

I recently has blood work done and my LDL cholesterol level is 245 but the HDL level is 125. My mother passed away almost 3 years ago from heart issues. I'm not overweight and I excercise 6 days a week by walking on the treadmill with weights. Do I need to worry about the LDL level being so high. Does that put me at a great risk for heart problems? My doctors office called and said that the bloodwork was fine.

Selmer,

Thank you so much for your extremely informative reply. I will check out that site and also keep myself educated on the wellness of my heart.  I agree I have to take charge of my own health and not keep it soley up to my doctor. Since last week I have stopped most dairy products and switched to soy because of my IBS condition. I think modifying my diet for the IBS will be a bonus for my cholesterol too.
