My husband has end stage liver disease with other complications.  He was told that he had a heart murmur during a recent stay at the hospital.  The docs didn't address it or mention that anything needed to be done about it at this point.  Seems that I remember it being mentioned a prior time when he was hospitalized.  Does anyone have any thoughts/ideas if I should be more concerned about this?

There are several murmurs that are natural, and don't indicate a problem. If your doctors did not say that it indicated a problem, then they were probably just stating an observation--like the color of your hair or length of your fingers--something that doesn't mean anything clinically. Often a doctor will mention it just so that you know it is there, in case someone asks in the future--so you know that it is there and not a 'new' occurence in the future.
If you have a concern, feel free to talk to your doctor. They always appear to be in a hurry, but it is better to get your questions answered and not have unnecessary worry.

Welcome, studentdoc!  I am also a student doc.  It'll be nice to have another med student around this joint...

Re: the murmur: tons and tons of people have murmurs and they are very often benign (meaning they don't cause any problems).  It's quite possible that your husband has had this murmur all his life.  I'm sorry to hear that he has end-stage liver disease; that must be very difficult for him (and you).  I'd echo studentdoc's statements and say it's best to address this concern with his doctor as soon as you can to eliminate any unnecessary worry.  Best of luck to you.

studentdoc and Sarita, thank you both for your comments. I just wanted a little insight before I check with the doc.
