I have had a few attacks of sudden extreme jaw pain in the middle of the night throughout my life. But always told myself that maybe I was clenching my teeth while asleep,,,but this morning I was wide awake and it happened out of the blue at 5:20 a.m. It hit me so hard I cannot tell you the pain I experienced, I actually thought I was dying. And then it was over as fast as it hit! I was too afraid to tell my husband, for fear that he would think I was nuts! I did a little research this morning online and the only thing that keeps coming up is cardiac eschemia. Anyone out there that can relate? Thanks.

HI, I was having jaw pain a while ago and went to the doctors. They did a bunch of tests on my heart (echo, ekg, stress test) and everythihng came back normal. It turned out to be stress related!! However, I would recommend you get a full workup (ekg echo etc) to rule out anything serious...but just know that jaw pain doesn't always mean its heart related. This could be migraine in nature (tmj), stress, tooth problems etc. Try not to be too nervous but at the same time..I hope that you go to your doctor to get it checked out!

Heart attack/stroke and I can promise you that even now, tmj is  the worst type of pain.  I fight it all the time with the weather changes.  Of course, call your doctor if this is worse.  If it's tmj, it will get worse over time.  Good luck with this.

TMJ, my sister suffers from, and this didnt compare. For one thing it hit with a bang, and within a minute it was over. And I know that it doesnt act like that with my sister, hers is long and continuous, and she doesnt feel like she is dying.

Yes but if its cardiac related you would have other symptoms related...such as arm pain or chest pain, heart palpitations, dizziness etc. Is it only jaw pain and have you seen a doctor?
