I am on the highest dose of Nexium and I am still having problems!! I have read somewhere that taking Nexium too long (which I have for a solid year now) can inhibit the body from normal amounts of acid production.  I really want to go off to see if things get better.  I have tried though...and the rebound reflux is soooo bad...nausea, dizziness, lump in throat...

Has anyone had any success with weaning themselves off?  How did you do it?

Hi there Mom2Sophia...I have not had any experience with Nexium, so I can't help you there...I do though want to assure that you are going to be going off this drug with the assistance of your doctor...it's best to never do it without him or her helping you out. They will wean you off it.

Wishing you the best.

I'm wondering the same thing and have heard activated charcoal pills can help.  I bought some and I'm planning on taking some after a few more months of healing my stomach (I am slowly recovering from a very bad bout of gastritis).  I hear it's just as effective, if not MORE effective, as the purple pill and does not cause the dreaded acid rebound effect of PPI's.

Let me know how you do.  I am starting to take an HCI supplement and hopefully get off of my Nexium.
