I've been having a swallowing problem and have been mostly drinking liquids. My kind husband brought home some V-8 juice in those little cans thinking it might help me get some "vegetable" nutrition. Of course, I had read all your smart lists about what not to eat and had seen tomato on there, but somehow it didn't quite connect. Uh-oh.

I drank that small can and had four hours of living hell. The pain was incredible.

It went away--I have avoided tomato since and have been fairly pain free.

Just a word of warning in case you tend to have a dicey tummy.

Anybody else eat or drink something that surprised them with absolute misery?

Hey there Martha! I don't have any stories for you, but I do have a suggestion that may help your swallowing problem...have you tried drinking through a straw? It may sound stupid, or like an easy answer, but I have heard from many that it does help.

Also, if you are doing a lot of drinking liquids, you could drink Ensure, or something like that to assure you are getting the nutrients you need.

Just a few suggestions. Hope it helps, and do keep us updated on how you are doing!

Wishing you the best!

I had the same experience. Bought a carton of V-8 from costco and after drinking one before bedtime, i had alot of problem. felt bloated and was completely uncomfortable for acouple of hours.

Now i have the rest of the cans just sitting inside my fridge.

Tammy, thanks for the ideas. I am going to give the straw a try. Can't hurt. :)

That's right marthamae! It can't hurt to try anything. If it doesn't work, at least you tried!

I wish I could drink v-8! I had Hawaiian Pizza once, I usually get heartburn after pizza but it's livable, except this time I got esophageal spasms that lasted all through the night and into the next day and I ended up in the ER only to find out I had esophogitus. Which would have been understandable except I was already on a strong PPI and had no idea my esophagus was so inflamed, even on the medication. Hence leading to my road to surgery. Hopefully after surgery I'll be able to drink it some times and get more of those veggies.

Ohh just THINKING about V-8 makes my stomach burn! I find that if I drink too much water that it bothers my reflux.

I've had those spasms you talk about and they are not fun. Here's hoping your surgery is wonderfully successful!

Marthamae, how are you doing with drinking through a straw...and in general, how are you doing?

I was thinking about you! Hoping all is well!
