My daughter likes to go to Starbucks and I really enjoy going with her. Today I tried a "skinny cinnamon dolce" and I really paid for it with stomach pain and that miserable tummy gas that won't come up. Is there anything at Starbuck's that is GERD friendly?

Coffee is acidic. Switch over to decaf tea or herbal tea. I've never been to Starbucks, so I don't know if tea is on the menu.

My information on refraining from coffee due to the acid comes from a medical person, not the internet. Experience has confirmed that the doctor was correct. Neither decaf tea nor herbal tea cause stomach problems like regular or decaf coffee did.

Thanks, Wrapped. I'll try some herbal and decaf tea at home and check whether they have it or not at Starbuck's. Great idea. That coffee about killed me. Not as bad as the time I tried the V-8 juice, but close. The only silver lining of this GERD is I sure am losing weight!

Are you taking any medication for the GERD? I have GERD as well as IBS and I can drink a latte from Starbucks but I keep it to a minimum. I know coffee and some tea can be acidic so I try not to drink them very often. If you do decide to try Starbucks again and try something with milk in it, I would use soy milk instead of regular milk. I had a tall soy pumpkin spice latte 2 days ago and it didn't irritate me at all. I'm currently taking Nexium and Librax (for the IBS) and they both seem to work. My husband just had an endoscopy and right after the procedure he had a mocha from Starbucks and was fine. He has GERD and gastritis and is taking Zegered and he says it works very well. He is a big coffee drinker so he now has to cut down on his intake. If you do like coffee, there are some places on the internet that sell low acidic coffee.

Yes, I take Pepcid and Protonix. I think I'm going to try something other than the Protonix as it doesn't seem to be doing much. I took Nexium a while ago, but our insurance discontinued it. Right now my diet and the vinegar seem to be helping more than anything. My biggest complaint is stomach gas. I get this pressure and can't burp... it drives me nuts. Thanks for the help, Meryl.

My GI doc told me to take Phazyme whenever I get bloated or have gas. Its supposed to be the strongest one over the counter. You might want to try that for the gas, it helps me out a lot.

Mmmmm, I love Starbucks...I stick with lattes and mochas avoiding their super fancy drinks with all the flavors and syrups (too much sugar for me). Then I'll get them with what I think is 2% milk, coats the stomach better than a skinny latte. Milk is a good source of calcium and protein so I don't feel bad for having it.

Starbucks uses a particular type of roasted bean that is strong and somewhat bitter so if you find their coffee too strong even in a latte chances are you could go to a different coffee shop where you live and find coffee that sits better with your stomach. I did a whole marketing project on coffee beans and businesses in college and was surprised to find out why coffee tastes so much different from one coffee house to another. Never had really thought about it until then.

Thanks for the ideas doghouse....I will give the 2% a try. I'll probably start with the tea though. I mean I REALLY suffered last night. A banana seemed to help. Meryl, I will try the Phazyme. That stomach gas is the worst!

Well suffering is never good...listening to your stomach is always best. A happy tummy makes everything else so much nicer!

Decaf coffee is not as bitter/strong as the roast they use for espresso. I do well with a decaf latte - but not skinny! I need at least 2% or other issues come up. I like caramel flavor in mine. Some mornings that's all I can keep down without having major GERD symptoms.

Phazyme - or generic equivalent - works well for me too :)

Thanks to my GERD I cannot have milk so I always go for an "extra hot tall soya milk". If i'm feeling daring I'll go for a very light sprinkle of chocolate.

I HATE GERD! Going for an Endoscopy at the end of the week, petrified of the needle they use for the sedative. (I'm such a wimp!)
