I just spent last weekend in the hospital thinking I
was having a heart attack and found out it was
gerd. The first I've ever heard of this so I'm doing
lots to learn about it. I've never been a stressful
person, I'm more melancholy like but I think the
fosamax I took did this. Its been so hard to eat,
swallow, sleep, and even drinking water of all things.
I'm finding out that this is what its all about, and
it will be awhile before my esophagus gets healed.
Currently I'm taking the otc prilosec, but the cardiologist gave me a script for protonix. I've had
others recommend to me that the protonix contains
special ingredients that will help the esophagus heal.
With that in mind, I'm willing to spend the bigger bucks
for the script as compared to the otc prilosec. Is
changing meds going to be a problem? Monday morning
I go see my regular doctor and I would expect him
to refer me to the gastro doc. I'm wondering if they
will want to do one of those barium scope things on
my throat, is that pretty much a common procedure
with this illness? Well, I have a lot of other questions
but thats enough for my introduction, I might find
my answers in some old posts, if not, I'll be back yeah

The Barium swallow is not a scope.  You swallow liquid.  The scope is the endoscopy.
