I hope someone can shed some light on this situation, I am a 44 year old male. I have been diagnosed with esophigitis & gastritis. After eating i get this "full sensation" just under my breast bone, i wouldnt call it a pain more like a dull presence if you know what I mean, I also get gas, which mainly goes out the rear end (much to my wifes disgust as it does smell) also at this time i get an awarness of my heart beat, in that area, to the point that if i look down at my shirt i can see it moving around my stomach area. I was taking Carafate for a while but i am on Zoton once a day at the moment, my main concern is my heart Ive had the halter monitor which was normal as was a cardiogram, my resting heart rate is between 65 -72 but after meals goes to 80-85, I am slightly over weight, I do smoke & I dont drink alchohol, but i do like diet Pepsi. also with the heart beat I do notice it more when I first lie down to sleep, when i do get the heart beat sensation i take my pressure and it varies around 135 -145/ 80 - 90 which is not that high, normally its about 135/80, and I do get rarely the odd skip, i did have atrial fibrulation about 5 years ago, but the doctor put it down to stress as my father was very ill, and I went through a hard time before he died, i have had no recurrence of that and I dont take medication for it. I do run my own business & have an ill mother who relies on me a lot, so I would say im pretty stressed, nay help would be appreciated. Eddie

Hi Eddie,

I too get an "awareness" of my heart beating when I lie down, I no longer lie flat at night, I have around 4 pillows to prop me up.

There are quite a few posts related to heart issues caused by gerd so might be worth checking them out too.. It does seem to be a common side effect. However, saying that you can never be too careful, esp when it comes to heart health so might be a good idea to get a check up.

Wishing you all the best....

My advice is to get your heart checked out until you are comfortable that there are no cardiac issues. Then accept that and focus on learning ways to relief your stress. Stress is a serious killer...on our stomachs and everything else.

Hang in there.

Hi Eddie

When I first had Gerd, I had the same feeling about my heart rate and I can always hear it and it would go faster for no reason. But when I knew for sure nothing was wrong my heart, that feeling slowy went away when my cofidence grew about Gerd and how affects me. My heartrate still beats faster after eating but I don't think about it, so I don't let it bother me.
When I get that full feeling under my breast, I take anacid and usually belch and that feeling goes away.
