I believe gastritis and GERD can cause about every symptom known to man. I've read most of them on this forum.

I have never had heart palpitations, but some people on here have. If I were you, I'd have my heart checked out. I'm sure it will be be totally normal and then you NEED TO FORGET about IT. Stress and anxiety make heart palpitations much worse. You become hyper aware of every little thing. If you believe you suffer from anxiety and worry a lot about your health, you might check out the anxiety forum on this board. There's a lot of good info there. I've had good reason to worry about my health in the last year or so, but I found the worry and anxiety was really consuming my life. I needed to get a handle on it and put it in perspective.

Is your doctor recommending any treatment for your ulcers and your gastritis? In my reading, I believe the vast majority of hiatal hernias are not a problem, but I know esophagus spasms are definitely painful...they were agony for me. If you aren't seeing a gastro doctor, I'd get to one and get on a PPI and also try some at home treatment for GERD. Make all the lifestyle changes you can. See what helps. We have a thread with good info in this forum. It should be near the top.

Hope you feel better soon:)

Hi Kara487

Can you tell me what your esophageal spasms feel like. I get this chest palpitations that last for a few seconds, sometimes I get a bunch of them and other times nothing for days. They feel like someone is sqeezing in my chest. I had a couple of holter tests but nothing happened during the tests.

Esophageal spasm is a pain that feel like you've swallowed a "Ping Pong" ball.......& it slowly moves up & down the
esophagus---My Gastro Dr. gave me "nulev" which is an anti cholinergic pill you put under your tongue--it dissolves in about 30 seconds & stops the spasm....within 1 or 2 minutes--

  Anyway else use Nulev?   Robert

I've know of someone whose GI Dr. uses Botox to treat esophageal spasms.

I had these spasms/sensations after having the BRAVO CAPSULE place in my esphagus 5 days afterward, and suffered miserably for the next several days until the doctor removed it. It wasn't a painful sensation as much as it was a shaky feeling that caused me to feel like I had the wind knocked out of me every time it happened. It continued somewhat after removal, and gets worse when i eat solid food, but is gradually subsiding. Thank God. It's a terrible feeling.

Bravo is the name of a small capsule that a GI dr. can place in  your espophagus during endoscopy.  the bravo is a is wireless and remotely records your pH levels onto a little computer device for 48  hrs.  it's supposed to drop off and dissolve in about a week.  it's a diagnostic tool for GI doctors to determine the acid/ph levels for GERD sufferers.
