Hi Everyone!  I am new to forum.  I have read the boards for the past few days and decided to post today.  I am weaning off of aciphex after 2+ years.  I was originally placed on the medicine in 2006 while my husband was deployed to the desert. I had been taking 300mg of zantac 2x a day prior to that.  Needless to say I was under a great deal of stress (living overseas as well with a 3 year old and and 1 year old) at the time.  I had numerous side effects in the beginning--anxiety symptoms were greatly aggravated, leg cramps, hot flashes, etc.  I also noticed that I became (still do) anxious if I missed a dose (would look at the clock and realize I should have taken med a couple of hours earlier).  To be fair, it controlled my reflux well-- almost too well.  I was/am able to eat or drink anything I want. However, weird side effects started occuring a few weeks ago.  I had horrible joint and muscle pain, blurry vision, and pronounced hair loss among others.  I asked my doctor about weaning off and she replied that there is no weaning just stop taking it and if I had symptoms return in a few days that I need to keep taking it. I have since done research and there is a way to wean off (take my dose 20mg every other day).  I am also taking zantac 150mg on the days that I don't take the aciphex.  My goal is to be off the aciphex and on zantac only in a few weeks.  Stress does aggravate the reflux but am trying to destress as much as possible.  I am also walking every day for a least 40 minutes.  Is there anything else I could be doing to help the tapering off?

I don't know anything about Chaitea's results, but I'll tell you about mine. I had to stop it after surgery.
Try the every other day method for a week, then every three days, then every four days, then every five, then every six, then stop.
Now this worked because of my surgery, but I've heard of others making it without the surgery.
Others here say slippery Elm, aloe drink, and DGL helps them.
