I am new to this board and would appreciate any replies.  Basically had hpylori back in September.  Had esophagitis and they suspected an ucler.  Was treated and was confirmed with both an endoscopy and breath test that hpylori was eradicated.

Had extreme anxiety over all this...basically thought I was going to die.  Prepared my husband and family for the worse.  Could not eat for probably 5 months.

Basically, initially I complained of burning pain in stomach and back.  Had a CT scan of abdomen which was normal and had upteen blood tests all ok.  By November was starting to get pain in chest (centre).  This was dibilitating and basically November through to January had horrible pain in chest.

Was in constant contact & GI specialist...both thought a lot of my symptoms were due to the anxiety.  By January I was seeing a counsellor and on some anti-anxiety medication (throughout all this time I have also been on Losec 20mg a day which did absolutely nothing.

I have battled through the anxiety and am now able to eat.  Now I am @ the point where I really want to get to the root of this --- what is it?  Gerd, motility problem.

Here's my current symptoms - every other day (generally) heaviness in chest (not horrible but uncomfortable) then it moves up to my throat the next day.  Burp throughout the day (approximately 25 times).  Don't find eating affects it (eg ate ice cream yesterday and fine).

Any suggestions what this could be

Hi eugenia and welcome!

Why couldn't you eat for 5 months. Was it anxiety or did you feel like it wasn't going down properly?

I haven't had the stomach issues but I can definitely relate to the chest symptoms. When I ate, my chest would feel really heavy which progressed on to crushing pain and then I would be breathless. In between eating I would get pain in my chest usually at the top, off centre.

What are your throat symptoms? I felt like I had a lump in my throat and sometimes the pressure would drive me nuts!

Don't despair! There is help here and out there. You just have to find the right people to help you.

What does your GP say about your symptoms?

Thanks Bo Peep for the reply. I couldn't eat due to severe anxiety (of course, I thought I was dying...I just couldn't believe that I was anxious).

My symptoms are a crushing pain but more a feeling like something is moving up my esophagus and a discomfort in the centre of my chest. That's why I think it is gerd but this hasn't been confirmed.

Both my GP & GI think that anxiety is the culprit as all my tests come back ok....but I'm just not sure.

Could you let me know your story....I would appreciate it.

Thanks!
