I'm going to try taking the apple cider vinegar with mother for chronic gerd. Has anyone had success with it and if so can you please advise the best way to take it. Thank you in advance.

I actually found organic apple cider vinegar in a drink called Haldi, and I believe it was that in combination with curcumin(one of the main ingredients in the drink), that allowed me to finally get rid of my GERD, and actually come off my protonix, which was not doing the job.  It also has helped immensely with my colitis.  I found them at whole foods organic markets, and they also taste pretty good.  In the past I had tried apple cider vinegar straight, like a shot, but it actually burned going down, for me that didnt work.  It was still rough when I added honey too it.  Good luck

That's great that it's helped you get off the meds. Can you please tell me how i might try taking it...tablespoon before meals or after...and with water? Thanks!

Calumet, I would try it with water and honey and see if you can tolerate it, my point was that I couldnt tolerate it that way, and I really like to get that into my diet, thats why I found the Haldi drinks. The green tea does not have apple cider vin., it is the berry drink that does, anyway,
Most people I know drink it straight, I think the honey mixed in would be the best way to go, good luck,

I had actually seen some research somewhere in the past
that had talked about apple cider vinegar decreasing
carbohydrate absorption, I cannot find that article now, but I
know I saw that somewhere. So either in a drink form or
straight, I would say before meals, but you know everyone
is different. My Haldi drinks, I usually like on an empty stomach,
because I feel that way I get more penetration into my throat
and esophagus with the active ingredients, and seems to work
better that way. Good Luck, as even in ancient greece
vinegar was used for many ailments.

Thanks much yuckygut. I called Haldi and it's not available in Canada yet but they are working on it...to ship it would end up costing about $4 a bottle now yikes. How long were you drinking the Haldi berry juice before you were able to get off your PPI thanks?

I took the apple cider vinegar with the mother in it and it definitely worked.  I stopped taking it though and replaced it with probiotics b/c the vinegar was making me bloated but I think it was b/c i was taking 3 shots a day!

Calumet, I have been taking it for well over a year, and now I switch between their Haldi green tea and berry flavors. I believe its the way they formulate their drink that gives the biggest benefit, and not any one ingredient. I have over 1 year old protonix sitting in my cabinet at home, and I love the literature out there that shows that curcumin, and you would think especially in this drink form, helps to decrease cancers in the whole GI tract, from the mouth, espophagus and on down. Besides the pain of my GERD, that was the main reason for taking it, because I also have U.C. 4 Bucks is pretty steep, hopefully you can get it cheaper in the future. Good luck.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I am on Nexium and my GERD has been terrible lately, even though I have restricted my diet and taken other steps. I took a tad of Apple Cider Vinegar in a full glass of water. And drank it twice yesterday. I felt noticeably better. Does it take a few days for the full effects? Should I make this part of my daily routine? How often should I take it? A few times a day? thanks.

Calumet, I saw the folks who make Haldi drinks are running a special on their website, maybe you could take advantage of that.

notreason,
I do make drinking Haldi a daily activity for me, I had tried Apple cider vinegar by itself(diluted) but it always irritated my esophagus more than helped sooth it, which is what the Haldi does, along with getting rid of my GERD, good luck

Hi ale17, Good luck, I just recommended them to a contractor I work with, but I found Haldi4health when I was working on the east coast, in DC, New York. But I now order them online. I like the drinks better than pills, because they sooth my throat as it goes down. But bottom line is I do not wake up in the middle of the night, or all night long miserable and hurting, and that was even when I was on protonix. I did go into a whole foods in Boston and they didnt have them there so I guess they are not in all of them.
