This may be a stupid question for you guys, but I'm really looking for answers right now. I recently visited my doc for GI issues. I mentioned that sometimes it feels like food is backing up in the back of my throat no matter how much or little I eat. She asked if I had heartburn before and I couldn't really answer. I don't know what it feels like and if I have it hasn't been recent enough for me to remember. I have had chest pains after eating and/or along with my other symptoms. Sometimes the back of my throat burns and feels like acid is coming up. Other times I burp and get a burning feeling. There is also a bad taste in the back of my mouth that I can't really ever get rid of and I always seem to have some level of bad breath although I brush my teeth and take mints. My doc prescride Plevix(sp?)(I think that was it) but my insurance wouldn't pay for it without a referral of justification. When I asked the pharmacist what the med was for they said acid reflux or similar conditions. She prescribe the medication without even looking in my throat. I have an abdominal ultra sound tomorrow to check for other things and have been checked for ulcers and am waiting for results.

So what do you guys think? Is my self diagnosis of GERD sounding right?

BTW I'm a 22 yr old F.

It sounds like GERD to me. I've had it for years. . I don't always get a lot burning but I have a bad taste in mouth, pain in my chest and throat and other problems like coughs etc. Good luck on your tests

Thanks for the response. We'll see what the doctor has to say. Its a shame that we basically have to diagnose ourselves and then convince the doctors we're right and they are wrong in their diagnoses.
