My husband is going for an endoscopy this morning at 11:30 am.  Two weeks ago he was taken to the ER via ambulance because he could hardly breathe and couldn't move due to the pain when he tried to breathe.  He just had 2 different surgeries for kidney stones which was awful and he hadn't felt good x over 5 weeks, so I was really scared and so was he.  While at the ER, they did X-ray and CT Scan and determined he had pneumonia, pleuracy and a partially collapsed lung.  They let him go home on antibiotics and pain meds though and his breathing is better, but he still doesn't feel well.
He was to follow up with his doctor ASAP = which ended up being this past Tuesday.  While there he was informed that the radiologist said that he had either scar tissue or cancer at the bottom of his esophagus.  So, endoscopy scheduled.  He does have GERD and had a endoscopy about 1997 which showed the GERD only.
From what I have been able to gather on the internet, if it is cancer, the prognosis is poor and usually there are no s/s until later on in the disease process.  He has lost some weight and hasn't been eating as well as he use to.  Also, he has had an increase in stools a lot of which is diarrhea:  this was before the surgeries and stuff.  I ask him the other day if his stools were ever black and he said Yes, they are really black, but he didn't know if they were tarry or not.  He really hasn't felt well for some time, but he has been under a tremendous amount of stress for a long time as well, due to financial burden, me not working and stress on his job.
Has anyone ever been through this and if so, have you had any early s/s?  He is on 41 y/o.
  Any information would be appreciated.

Have a wonderful pain free day, Anne.

Good news! Normal exam no cancer, no scar tissue. Does have very small hiatal hernia, which doc says shouldn't give any trouble at all. Doc says lots of times the CT scans give these readings falsly due to the esophagus not being completely open when picture done.
