I have been diagnosed with GERD and Deverculosis. I started eating healthier and have been taking Prevacid twice a day on an empty stomach like my DR suggested. However, the gas has not stopped. Excess gas was one of my symptoms when I went to get diagnosed originally. So, I thought the medication and a good diet would stop it. I stopped eating raw vegetables and beans but still get gas for any food I eat. It is affecting my love life. I can't sleep in the same bed as my boyfriend becase I get gas especially at night. It's mostly through my rectum and usually does not smell but it is loud.
What can I do? Help?

I do know that PPI's will give you more gas and bloating. One reason is they cause constipation and I think (my opinion from my experience) is that your digestion is being messed with because obviously we need stomach acid to digest food properly. I became lactose intolerant while on PPI's and any dairy would give me cramps and bloating along with beans. But when I go off the PPI's I don't have any problem with cramps or bloating and can eat dairy and beans.

I can't speak to the causes of your gas and bloating before you took the PPI's but I do know that alot of carbs will cause gas. I'm not sure if diverticulities causes gas.

Welcome aboard this'll get alot of good knowledge here.

There are many OTC products that reduce or eliminate gas and can be taken before bed. If you are allergic to pencillin or shellfish be very, very careful. Some of these products are made from mold in the 'cillin family and should be avoided. Just do the research first if you choose to use them.
