Hi everyone. I thought I would start a new thread instead of hijacking the other one. So to carry on with the saga. I had to go to see my GP today as I had palpitations of 131 this morning! He thinks it might be Hyperthyroidism so took some blood. I also have to have my heart monitored for 24hrs on Monday. I go back for the results on Friday. I can hardly believe this is happening! Just when I was able to eat solid foods too! I thought I was better and could get on with life. Now it is looking like I have gall bladder problems and hyperthyroidism. cry
I need some cheering up guys. rolleyes

Dear Elaine,

I am sorry you have an increased heart rate.  Did your physician tell you whether it was a Normal Sinus Rhythm; does your heart rate stay at this rate all the time or do you have spurts of this rate?

It feels to me like your physician is taking you seriously and testing is the best way to get to the cause of a new sx.

Please keep posting and know we are here for you.

Gentle Hugs
Kitt

Elaine, have you checked the side effects of meds that you're on?? I was on halcion for sleep; worked wonderfully; but as time went on I found my self becoming unreasonably anxious and my heart would race like yours is. One day I went on line and checked side effects and sure enough, halcion was the culprit.

Check it out, I'm worried about you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hugs,
Janice

I've read where a rapid heartbeat is a common sign of hyperthyroidism...who knew? I have hypothyroid; I just take synthroid every morning and it's no big deal. Breathe easy, don't fear, we're here with you (as best we can!!!)

Hi Elaine,

There is a difference between palpitations and a tachycardia is why I asked the above questions.  I hope you are doing ok .

Yes, they are not the same. Yours sounds like high heart rate and if it is doing it all the time the 24 hour monitor will give them an idea. If that is not the case ask for the Kind of Hearts monitor which you wear for days and when you feel your heart race or pound hard you push a button and it will record the 5 minutes before and during (dont ask me how it does that but it does) I did not have high heart rate but had the palps so it was better for me. Found out it was from chocolate that I was eating after dinner. I stopped with the chocolate and they stopped. I never would have thought of that except the nurse asked. Yours does sound like high heart rate if it is 135 as that is quite high. Glad you are getting it checked out right away. Also, sounds like you need an EKG and Echo

I had an EKG and everything was fine ( I have a slightly odd heartbeat, it has an extra blip, so he had to check my records). I have a high resting heart rate of around 90-95 and then have these palpitations where it goes nuts! I used to be Hypothyroid but that seemed to have sorted itself out so I came off the pills (about 2 years ago).

I haven't been taking any drugs, only supplements and I stopped taking those too last week just in case.

I have some of the other common symptoms of Hyperthyroidism too like tremor, weird periods, shortness of breath and sweating. I hadn't put them all together until now. I am feeling better about it today. At least I will know by the end of the week and be ready to tackle it head on. devil

Thanks for all your support and I will let you know the results on Friday. wink

Elaine,

I will be watching for you results.  You have my thoughts and prayers as I know this is scary and the waiting for results seems to go on forever.

Bless you,

Kitt

Thanks Kitt! Luckily it is back to school this week so I should have plenty to keep me occupied. :)
