I'm back-stomach pain has got me down

Hi- I'm back after a few months of a good stomach situation.
 
To summarize my history...Last November I had a ring in my esophagus and couldn't get food down. My doc went in and stretched it which caused me to start having a terrible case of GERD. Go figure! I had difficulty swallowing, food backing up and couldn't hold much food at once. I lost 30 pounds in three months which I have kept off. I stopped all alcohol, carbonated stuff, and tea and coffee and all vegies and fruits and really meats. I was just on yogurts and slimfast for quite a while if you can believe it. Anyhow, things gradually got better--it was slow, but it did improve. All of this time I was on Protonix and Pepcid which I am still taking.
 
about a month ago I was eating pretty much whatever I wanted...chocolate, mildy spicy stuff (nothing wild), tomatoes, etc. I noticed I was getting heartburn literally every day all day. I was also getting that backed up feeling in my chest and throat. The last few days I have had bad pain in my stomach. I work as a substitute teacher and the pain has gotten bad at school. Eating seems to help a bit and I have taken Xanax when it gets bad which does help a lot. I know some of the pain is from stress. Also when I eat a full meal I just suffer terribly. I need to eat very small amounts but that is hard to do.
 
I think I need to go back to very small quantities of food six times a day. I am not quite sure what to eat. I am able to snack at school...the kids snack and no one would mind if I quickly ate something at 10 am and then I could eat right at the end of school at 3.
 
It is also hard to prepare a meal for my family and then have something I can eat.
 
I guess I am just griping here. I know what I need to do--I just am frustrated that I am back to suffering again.
 
I also had a lot of luck doing the honey and vinegar last time and I think I will try that again as another idea.

I'd love some ideas of what you all ARE eating instead of just long lists of what NOT to eat.

Martha,

You wrote " about a month ago I was eating pretty much whatever I wanted". Perhaps if you keep a food diary it would be helpful and cut out the known foods that cause problems for many people. Chocolate may be one I would leave out.

Go back to step one and start to eat a healthy diet of foods that you know agree with you. You don't have to make special meals for your family if you are all eating healthy. They may be able to eat certain things you can't but  you will know what not to eat. :-)

I eat what I know will not cause me problems and if I error in deciding to eat something that I know will trigger my reflux, I have to  tell myself that I knew better. Once  again I was taught that ice cream right before bedtime will always reflux on me.
