Can anybody offer me some advice.  I had the open fundoplication about 8 weeks ago and am suffering severe pain where the surgeon made the cut especially in the middle.  I am being told it is the nerves of the muscles but nothing seems to be getting any better, am on medication for the nerves to see if they start healing.

I know I have a lot of scar tissue since i had the keyhole fundoplication about 6 years and everything fell apart which is why I had to have the open version this time.  When I had the keyhole version it last for about 6 months then I had acid back and was on oemperazole for the last 6 years, in May this year the reflux happended again.

Any advise would be appreciated, I cannot sit very long in a chair before my wound starts burning inside so therefor cannot get back to work. I know my abdominal muscles are not working very well coughing is difficult and cannot lift my left leg it all seems to be connected.

I can offer no real advice but I can commiserate. You had major surgery and that will take time; be easy on yourself. I hope you have good helpful friends and/or family around you.

Thanks for your reply. I try and keep cheerful but it is very hard when you are in pain all the time.

Anytime you have an open incision it takes longer to heal as the muscles and nerves in the area have been afffected by the surgery.  I am sorry your first surgery did not last and you had to have this repaired.

Keep talking to us and I am sure one of our members will have some advice for you.
