For the past week I have a constant feeling of breathlessness and tightness in the chest. Not so bad while sitting, but definitely worse with any exertion.

I do have Lyme Disease, and have had Pulmonary Function Tests, normal Chest X Ray, and normal EKG this week.

I do have some GI issues, so I'm wondering if GERD can cause this, even if it's constant?

Bella,

Hi this is Kitt.........wow a tough  one if your EKG and CXR are fine and your Pulmnary function tests were fine.

Any lab work done, an ABG, Complete WBC ?

Have you ever been dx with asthma?  No URI or coughing.  Your description of it being constant and worse with activity is concerning.  I would suggest you talk with your physician about a stress EKG.  Any chest pain?

Well I am not the professional but do not hesitate to call your physician if you notice any other alarming sx.

I will be following your posts.

Hugs

Kitt

Hi Kitt,

Thanks for your reply!

I did have bloodwork run (cardiac enzymes, cbc, thyroid, and some other things) and everything was fine.

Because I have PVC's, I get regular Echo's and had a Stress Test in June that was normal. I have Costochondritis (chest wall pain) from Lyme Disease, but no chest pain other than that.

I feel a burning in my chest and stomach and almost like a tightness there, but the breathlessness feels like it's more in my throat or airway. The frustrating thing is the Pulmonologist said my airway is fine.

Are you on any Doxycycline at the moment? That can do funky things to you, and make you feel like you can't breath deep enough.
If you've been on lots of antibiotics, maybe you need to replenish your good gut flora and with probiotics?
GERD can manifest in lots of weird ways. I've had spells of feeling such a pressure in my upper chest and neck, and also feelings of my diaphragm contracting.
the costochondritis can probably feel like that too.
Are you on any meds now?
May I ask your age? (and I'm assuming you're female?)

Hi Kathy,

I'm 25. I'm not on any antibiotics right now, I'm treating the Lyme with Chinese herbs after antibiotics hurt my stomach too much.

I hope the Chinese herbs are working Bella. Lyme disease can be an awful thing, with years of problems if you don't get it taken care of quickly.
I have a really hard time with antibiotics too. Besides wrecking my entire GI tract, and making my IBS worse for a long time, they make me feel totally awful.......exhausted, weak, etc.
Do you think the chinese herbs might be having some side effects?
