Hi all -  i hope you are all having a nice holiday
my gi doc 1 month ago today diagnosed me as having "mild" gastritis -- i dont know if the word mild is his idea of a joke -- he bascially poo poo my ailment as not worthy of his total concern and sent me off with a prescription of solutab prevacids
and said that in a few days "you will back to your old self"
well its been more than a few days -- im a few lbs lighter too - ive basically become a slave to my disease -- im in constant burning pain in my chest and throat area (since October!) and acids reducers are doing little -- and i cant swallow solids anymore.. i feel like food is getting caught up.. and my throat feels tight too!
ive been on pear and banana baby foods and broth soups only -- god forbid if i should try to chew on a lean piece of chicken.
my question is cause i cant sem to find the exact answer online - but does gastritis have symptoms as crazy as i have ?  out of nowhere im a heartburn acid reflux sufferer who cant swallow food???
is there anyone on this board who knows a little about this insane affliction?

If it's been a month and you haven't gotten any relief? I think you should get back into the GI Dr. Or maybe see another one if that's option. I've been told that reflux can cause a lot of strange symptoms. I am dealing with food getting stuck and only eating broth type soups and applesauce myself, 2 1/2 years after a Nissen Fundo for severe reflux. I also am taking the Previcid solutabs, taste nasty to me. Anyhow, I don't believe they work as well as the capsule type I used to take. (Insurance thing) Not sure if I am much help, but I know the frustration you must be feeling.

hey bill

thanks for responding to my post -- yeah im scheduled to see my pill pusher..er... gi doc on the 2nd.

i dont recall having gerd before in my life! never was a dyshagia and heartburn sufferer until a couple of months ago when out of nowhere these symptoms occured.

now i have to contend with the prospect of these (what im reading) scary tests and possibly surgery!

my throat ailment -- this tight, painful burning situation is due to the gerd i have developed out of the clear blue-- and im searching online for this answer and cant find a satisfactory direction ; does gastritis bring on GERD?

or was gerd always there but dormant all my life until now?? i guess i could ask dr whats his face -- hopefully he can give me an answer.. but ive got to protect my espohogus -- so iam going to upp my ppi intake ( although the thought of suppressing important acid in the stomach seems unhealthy to me) so does cancer of the throat

it seems there is no winning with these symptoms!

im only 34 but i truly feel im on my last legs in life -- i think the end is closing near -- and i think id rather be dead than battle this ominious no end pain ..

I often wondered the same thing about suppressing the stomach acid. If we need it to digest food does food digest properly while taking these meds? I even asked my Gstro Doc and didn't get a straight answer, imagine that. I know the fear of throat cancer is a big motivator for me to get my GERD and whatever else under control. As much as I hate having all the tests and such they still sound much better than the alternative. Keep moving forward one day at a time and keep after the doctors to give you real answers. I finally found a surgeon who is interested in finding out what is really going on rather than trying what "usually works". I know of the frustration and pain, but I got to believe there is a solution somewhere.

Symptoms from GERD are not always present.  As far as the Dysphagia, you'll probably want to have a motility study done.

hi hp thank you for your reply.

not always present? does that mean that gastritis can bring on gerd symptoms? i think the swallowing issue has to do with the damage gerd is doing to my throat with the acid running up on me.... but im going to to pursue the gi doc and ent docs too ...

Gastritis is gastritis it can be brought on by food and or stress. Do some research on Anxiety and GERD

and you will find some posts that refer to the tighting of the throat as related to both. Your worried about what could happen try to think about what you can do to help yourself. Think Positive! Look at whats going on in your life right now and whether there are issues that may be causing your heartburn. If the doctor your seeing you feel is not getting you the answers you want then seek another opinion. When you see your doctor have your questions written down so that you can get the answers your looking for. Take things one day at a time while this may seem impossible this is all it takes.
