Hello,
I have had acid reflux for close to a year now. I am taking nexium every day (have been for 9 months now), and have been able to control the symptoms of acid reflux. Recently I came down with the stomach flu, and I was wondering what the effect of acid reflux and the long term use of nexium has on the stomach flu. The reason I ask is, that I no longer have diarrhia, but I still have stomach cramps and it has been 2 weeks. Does any one have any ideas?

Make an appointment with your doctor hon. It could be a number of things, like fishers, hemoroids that got irratated, some weird disease, some reacion to all the stress your body has, etc

I am sorry you have had a nasty case of the stomache flu and I agree your physician should be consulted on the continued stomach cramps. Please do let us know how you make out as it will be a good thing to share what your physician things regarding the reflux and the flu also.

I had stomach flu in November. It made my GERD worse, i don't remember how long it took to get back the way it was before. When I get stomach cramps it is because of what food I have eaten.

Hello,
I would agree with you when you say that it makes your GERD symptoms worse. I caught this gastro virus at the beginning of January,(the reason I was pretty sure that it was a gastrobug was because of the way it came on, and that a week after I got sick my wife came down with the same symptoms) and it is only now starting to subside somewhat. My doctor had me checked for parasites, and viruses, also, because I just turned 50, I had my first colonoscopy, and everything checked out fine. So whatever virus I had was gone by the time I was tested.
The thing that had me wondering what was going on, was that my typical symptoms of GERD that I use to get, were pains in the chest, belching, and severe throat acid burning, and only minor gas and bloating problems. Now the GERD symptoms seem to be more of a gas and bloating problem. So I guess I'll go back to my GERD diet for a while just to get back on track.

Regards
Robert

The only thing that helped my Gerd was when I took an antibiotic with some sort of antacid. You can also just take tums, but make sure you take an antibiotic. It cleared it right up.

Durn:

You are responding to a thread that is over 9 years old and the OP and others haven't been around the Forum for that long. You will get more traffic if you start your own post.
