I'am a thirty year old female who has experienced indegestion and heartburn from about 13 years old. Recently, I feel it has gotten much worse. I'am constantly belching, ( loud and with much base) everything I eat makes me belch. To the point where I have to stand up after each meal and shake it out so I can get some relief. I do experience the burning feeling as well especially when I eat certain foods but its the belching that is much much worse. It feels like there is so much pressure in my chest area that if I dont get it out it will explode. After I burp I feel better for about 1 minute and the feeling comes back until around the time my food settles. I went to the doctor a couple months ago which she prescribed prilosec. I took it for the 14 days it recommended and seemed to work. But now it feels like it came back much worse. I dont know if I should take it every day even though it says not to. Whats even worse is I woke up yesterday with that lump feeling in my lower throat and now Im really scared that this is starting to cause some damage.  I know i need to change my whole life style as far as smoking, drinking, coffee, fatty foods, overweight, I mean you name it I do it all. I just hope it's not too late. Can anyone else out there relate?

It can be used as a everyday medication, that UNDER GUIDANCE AND MONITORATION OF A PHYSICIAN. How I know? I take it on a daily basis. But I'm well monitored by a team of much, I usually see a doctor every week. I recommend contacting your primary doctor and telling her/him that the medication helped, you finished your supply, and now you are experiencing symptoms again and you would like a preventive medication for acid reflux

Hello california girl,

Welcome to HealingWell and the GERD/Heartburn forum.  I have been taking Priolosec for 4-5 years and it works well for me most of the time. I do have some break through problems but not that often.

Also if you feel you need to be seen by a GI physician please do ask your PCP for a referral to a good physician.  You may need further evaluation.

Take care and let us know how you are doing.
