With so many members who have taken the daunting task of a colonoscopy I am sure that there is plenty of advice on the whole proceedure, from start to finish.  My BIGGEST concern is the prep.  I have a very sensitive stomach and usually will become sick to my stomach when taking horrid liquid meds.  Is there any way possible to make the medicine go down any easier (besides a spoonful of sugar) smhair . My GI ordered the cherry flavored drink, but can I add anything to make it taste better.  I would rather have done the pills but now they are warning that the phosphate pills can cause serious kidney damage.  That was my only hope.  Then there is the camera pill which sounds great, but do you still need to do the regular prep? Does ins. not pay for it? I guess you can tell that I am very nervous about this proceedure.  My friend just had one done and became very sick a couple days later and ended up in the hospital for several days.  I don't know what the problem was but it really scared me.  I am sure that those kind of results are very rare. I just don't want to be one of the rare cases.  I realize that there are always risks in life, so I need to just press through and make the best of it and believe that all will be well.

That said, I would love any positive advice and recommendations on how to tolerate this with as few unpleasantries as possible.

Thank you all so much!
Carolyn

Carolyn, let your Dr. know that you get nauseated relatively easily and they may be able to prescribe something for you.

I'm kind of an old hat at colonoscopies (nothing to be proud of!); the stuff they use now go-lytely or some other play on words, and is a gallon size ( or better) jug that you add water, and flavoring if you like. Shake it up good and let it get good and cold. When you drink it ( and you drink 8 ounces every 10 minutes or so), plug your nose drink it down and rinse out your mouth.

It doesn't make me queasy at all, but even with flavoring it doesn't taste all that good; I don't know of anyone who has ever had the type of problem that your friend has and I don't know if it was related or how; I would put that out of your mind.

Follow the directions from your Dr. and you will get through it just fine.

Thank you for the info. The Dr did prescribe anti nausea meds to take before drinking. Someone told me that they used Miralax works. You just mix it in a gallon of gatorade and it is flavorless. That sounds allot better to me. Have you heard about that?

No, I have to say I haven't, and as tempting as it sounds, I would hate to not have it work and have to reschedule the procedure and go through it again! My GI uses miralax as part of the prep, prior to the other, so who's to say?
