I had Nissen surgery last Oct.  The only real symptom I had was a cough.  However, after loads and loads of testing, it showed that I had reflux and this was causing my cough.
The cough is so much better.  Sometimes I still cough but it is more of an allergy cough and I can live with that.
After the surgery and leaving the hospital I was on full liquids.  I tried to not eat more than a cup full at one time and ate every 2 to 3 hours.  My recovery went really well.  No feeling of anything being stuck.  My surgeon did a loose wrap and I am not having any problems.  Off all meds for reflux.
The only problem that I have now is gas.  At night especially I seem to have a lot of gas.
If someone out there has had the same problem, would you let me know how long it lasts.  I take gasex and it helps.

Kitt,

You can have them do a test where they put a tube down your nose into the throat for 24 hours.

It will show if reflux is causing your cough.  If so, find the best bariatric sugeon that you can find and ask for a loose Nissen.

This is what my dr. did for me and it has made all the difference in the world.  I was waking up at night 2 or 3 times and had to get up until I coughed all the flem up.  I was coughing very hard and it finally caused my blood pressure to go up.

I would recommend the Nissen to anyone who is having the same problem.  I had loads of tests and took meds for the relux but it didn't help.  I also was sent to a lung dr. to be checked out before they did the Nissen.

Good luck,

Cough Free

Can you go back to eating/drinking what you want after the Nissan? I think I asked this question in another thread but would like more input. Carol

Yes, as a matter of fact I can eat things that caused reflux before. I am not a heavy drinker but I have had Fuzzy Navels and Wine since the Nissen, no problem.
