Ok, we have a good thread going about recipe ideas for Liquids, Full Liquids and even into the soft food arenas, but I had some questions on HOW much to be eating as I'm finding i'm just kinda going on what I think I can handle.
Is there a general rule on Qty?
I'm eating about 5 times / day and each meal consists of about the same amount of food. 1 Boost Energy Drink (8oz), 1 C of Apple Sauce (8oz), 1 C of Chicken Broth w/ one Egg (8oz), etc, etc.
I havent felt too full after any of these meals so i feel like i'm doing pretty good.
1. How do you know you've eaten too much?
2. How do you know when and how to test your limits safely?
3. When oh when can i eat a flippin STEAK!? jk.
Any tips are helpful..thank you!

I think that your stomach will tell you when you've had enough. Well actually, it might not let you know in time. I've had that experience today. I was really hungry, and enjoyed my meal a little too much. I felt much too full feels uncomfortable.

You're lucky you're able to eat that much. When I was at your stage, the most I could fit was about a half to 3/4 of a cup of food. That was it. Do you mean that each meal is 1 cup of food? The resident at the hospital said that the wrap only takes 15-20% of your stomach...the rest remains available. It didn't feel like that to me, though.

I've also heard that we will always get full a little faster after this surgery. That's okay with me.

I know I overate today, and I really need to learn how to control that. I guess that's called self-control. Gotta get some, huh?
At this point I am able to eat more...a cup of soup, a little piece of turkey sandwich, some crackers, tea...for breakfast, a scrambled egg, a half waffle, actually bacon! When I started, I couldn't finish a serving of soup. Now I can eat a bowl without a problem. I don't know if that helps.

Steaks? Hmmmmmm. I asked my surgeon when people generally start eating more normally, he said 4 weeks. I'm sure it's really individual. From what I hear, steak is one of your last treats.

I can basically eat anything that can be chewed thoroughly to a soft/liquid consistency. The more tender the meat, obviously, the better. I'm just about 3 weeks post surgery. I am absolutely amazed. I thought I'd still be on liquids and/or baby food consistency at this point. It is a pleasant surprise.

How is your swallowing coming?
Happy eating!
