I had my nissen done at the end of Dec and am back to eating real food - I can manage almost everything now just reduced amounts. I feel a little better GERD-wise - although I have had to start my lansoprazole again I'm only on 2 tabs a week, I still get chest pain but hopefully it will improve and I no longer get acid in my mouth.

However I am having major problems with bloating - by the end of the day I look as though I'm about 3 months pregnant. I also have really bad pains in my abdo. It;s really getting me down as I can't wear any tight clothing so if I want to go out one night I have to barely eat anything in the daytime or wear baggy clothes :( I know this sounds really vain but I'm only 22!

Do most people suffer from this post-op and does it get better. someone said I should cut back on breads - will this help? I eat a healthy diet and take probiotics everyday.

thanks for any help you can give,
Allie x

Allie, I too had a lot of bloating after the Nissen and it took a long time for it to go awhile. I remember looking at my stomach, then to my Husband and saying..we're going to have to pick out names!!... Seriously, though, I do remember it slowly going away; it had to do with motility changes and with air swallowing. I still don't understand the air swallowing, but there it is just the same...I did learn to stay away from colas, cabbage, chocolate, stuff like that and using a lot of gas-x!!

There is a lot of pain that goes along with this and it has to do with the gas that starts with the bloating and then moves its way through the digestive tract; if this continues for much longer, make sure you check with your Dr.

I had my first bloating episode over the weekend, and it's not fun. FYI, my catch-all remedy of walking worked for me. I was trying to decide to lay down and suffer the pain in relaxation mode, or get on my treadmill and walk, to try to get it moving.

I was in real agony...I decided to try walking, and it really helped move the gas along. It relieved the pain, and allowed the gas to pass through more quickly, I believe. I don't know if it would work for you, but it's a thought. From what I hear, the bloating subsides with time. You've got a few months under your belt, so it's likely that you'll soon have a resolution. Good luck!
