about a month ago I started burping A LOT! I've also be sick since last august, stomach problems with nausea and diarrhea. After a lot of testing my Doc decided I probably have IBS, but I might be Lactose intolerant (they haven't tested for it yet). This all started happening when I ended a treatment of Keflex. So my stomach issues are still up in the air, but I'm not any ware near as sick as I was Aug-feb. So I'm ok on waiting to find out whats going on with my stomach, even though some days I'm still really sick, and I'm not sure if the burping is related....

...Anyways, I did a tally for an hour one day and I burped around 200 times. And its like that all day everyday. I tried Prylosec (no luck), gas x (didn't do anything), an anti-spasmodic (no luck) and now I'm taking AcipHex (only on my 3rd day but nothings getting better yet). I don't know if I'm swallowing air or not. I'm know I'm not physically "Swallowing" But maybe I'm forcing aid down my throat and it feels like I'm burping? Because sometimes the burps feel like i have to force them up? I'm really not sure whats happening but I really want it to stop. I know I don't burp in my sleep and most of the time don't even burp for the first 10-20 mins I'm up. And I don't burp wile I'm eating, so I've been eating alot of food lately. LOL and its all bagels and stuff since I might have IBS or be lactose intolerant... or both... shakehead

Please is someone has any suggestions let me know, I really hope someone out there has an answer because I'm going a little crazy over this....

Welcome to HealingWell and the GERD/Heartburn Forum.  Wow, you are having a lot of issues with the burping and I understand why you would be so frustrated.

Do you drink a lot of  carbonated sodas that may contribute to the excess burping?

Hopefully someone else will have some good advice or ideas for you.

Again a warm welcome,
Kitt

KKpuppypaws -
The only idea I have is that most people with GERD/ reflux tend to swallow more air than normal unintentionally. I've been told it has to do with keeping the acid at bay. I wish I had more ideas for you. I can't imagine dealing with this. It has got to be horrible. Maybe it could be a direct effect of a reflux problem? Sure hope you get some answers from you doctor.

Take care,
Bill
