I was diagnosed with GERD a few years back...I also have Ulcerative Colitis. I was feeling alot of nausea if my stomach was empty.

I was on nexium and had alot of relief, but went off it last spring after a recommendation from my doctor (i was doing really well with both conditions)

Now I have had a UC flare and CAN NOT stop coughing...i sounds like a sea lion..its a very throaty cough and by throat it burning. It is much worse at night and when I lay down. I have had it now for about 1 week. Do you think this is GERD related??? (maybe because of the UC flare and GI "upset")

Hey there,

I cannot say for sure what is causing your cough but I had a chronic cough with GERD for a long time but it seems to have decreased lately.

I am sure others will have info for you.

Take care,

Kitt

Hi Poohbear,
I can only speak for myself, but GERD had definitely caused my cough for many years. I recently had the Nissen Fundoplication, and my cough has improved tremendously. My cough was more asthma related, but I do know that GERD can cause irritation to the esophagus, bronchial tubes, and vocal chords. The fact that its worse when you lay down at night, is even more evidence that it might be GERD related.
Best wishes in getting to the bottom of your problem,
Denise
