Hello wonder.  90% of your healing will take place in the first 8 weeks; the other 10% will take another year.  This is major surgery, even if it was done laproscopically and you have to give yourself time to heal.  Pushing yourself could cause problems down the line, so give yourself permission to feel good, feel crummy, feel active, feel sleepy, get upset, get depressed, wonder why you did this, realizing that this was the best thing to do.

A myriad a feelings and discoveries will accompany you during this journey, the best discovery you made was finding this forum and the people who will help you as you go.

Wanting to eat and then not wanting to look at food at all is perfectly normal.  Week 5 or 6 is a magical week for most people, it seems to be the time when you suddenly feel ok again, so don't despair, but give yourself time to heal.

Wonder,
Give yourself time.  Three weeks isn't much time.  Your GI tract was revised, and I'm sure there's swelling and inflammation.  I'm 3 months post Nissen, and I'm eating just fine.  I'm hungry, and can eat a normal amount of food again.  Hang in there!  Things will get better!

Hi Wonder,
You shouldn't drink carbonated beverages...at least for the time being. Many people find themselves unable to drink them again. Bea has managed to nurse one pepsi all day, and seems to have done fine, so if you're a soda addict, you could try that in a few weeks.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
Hang in there!

Wonder...
Also...chin up, girl! You can't control the speed of your recovery, so surrender to the process and look at all you have in your life to be grateful for! Keep yourself busy with things you enjoy, and stop focusing on your recovery process. You've had a major revision of your GI tract, and it'll take some time to get better. You'll be taking steps forward and backward for the next months, and it's out of your control (except for what you put into your mouth). Just keep a positive attitude, and let your body do it's healing job. The more you fight the process, the harder you'll find it to be.
We're all here for you!
Have a great day.
Denise
