Hi,

I'm new here and was wondering if any of you have any more information on the Esophyx procedure. My 13 yr old son is having it done next week.

He was diagnosed at about age 7 or 8 but they are saying he has proably had it longer than that. He takes meds everyday and beleive me he doesn't usually forget it. I need to write more information on his condition, but I need to get ready for work so I will have to do it later.

I would like to know how the procedure is going for anyone since it is fairly new.

Thanks!

I'm going for the esophyx procedure this fall. I find this option the best for me. Have you seen the video on line for it? It's very simple. My doctor's nurse said her 17 year old had it done and is doing great. She can burp and is totally off medication. The operation takes about 1-11/2 hours I'm told. Get him lots of Boost, ensure, soup, and ice cream. His throat will be sore for a few days.
I'm in the process of registering to see a doctor in my state who has done over 130 procedures and teaches others how to do it. I found him on the internet. Let me know how your son does.

Thanks for the welcome. I watched a video online on how they do it and I also went to a seminar in June on the procedure. The doc that did the seminar is the one that is doing the surgery. We live in FL, and suposedly the hospital chose this doctor who is originally from Canada to come here and do these surgeries. He has actually been doing them for only 6 months. His dad and I are a little scared and hope we are making the right decision for him. We know he can't live this way forever and take meds everyday.
I would like to hear back from some of the other people who have had it done already and how it's going, things to watch out for and such.

Thanks again,

My doctor is in Albany, GA. Are you close to the GA line?

Hi Joy,

No, we are in Central FL, his doc is in Ocala. I had heard that there were only three docs that were doing this procedure, but I guess there are more now.

So many mixed reviews, I guess everyone is different so that would cause the different reactions.

I just hope he gets some releif. His meds are killing us and we even have good insurance.

AMEN! I spend $25 on Nexuim and $10 on Zantac not to mention the bottle of tums I take every month. My Nexuim used to be $75, but I found coupons to help me.
