So sorry you got scared. What tests have you endured? What medications are you on?
My reflux is called "silent GERD". I have a chronic cough with choking phlem at times. I'm waiting to hear from my new doctor if my HH is small enough for me to have the EsophyX procedure instead of the Nissen. Once I get the go ahead I'll have the procedure around November.

Welcome to our little corner of the world. ;)

Welcome to hwc. I've had GERD for over 28 yrs and have been taking Prilosec 20 mg once per day for about the last 12 yrs. Prilosec has been a God send to me because it really has helped with my condition. Sometimes certain ppi's will help and others won't. Drs. have to experiment at times with the different meds before they can find the one that is best for a person. Fortunately for me, the Prilosec worked well and I didn't have to have any surgery to correct it. Good luck!

Well, I have suffered with this for almost 8 years, had an esphogial(sp) stricture in 2005 and have been almost pain free until about a month ago, it was like 8 years had started all over again!  I have been having horrible heartburn and not to mention I have a hital hernia and I think it plays a big factor in my issues. But the doctors keep telling me no but I am getting referred to a General Surgery doctor in the next couple of days to get rescoped and hope that they can find the underlying problem why my throat is burning all of the time. Not to sound crazy but I would be stoked if they told me I had an ucler or something to that matter so at least I know what was going on... What scared me with this bout of gerd was I started having chest pains and I am 33 female and about 20 lbs overweight. I freaked out I thought I was having a heart attack and the ER doctor just looked at me like are you serious, they did an EKG it came back normal and my blood work showed nothing out of the normal so it was left to indegestion but at that time I didn't feel like I had it but I think that my body is changing and reacting different. But when I burp the pain goes away and then it builds up again and then I try not to freak out but it is really hard not too considering it has made it so uncomfortable to lay down sit up and then I start to have a panic attack. So now I have to patiently wait until I get to see the surgeon and hope that he can find what is going on and refer me back to a GI doctor that I will have to travel for since the military base we are at doesnt have one at the hospital!

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  I am so glad you found us but sorry it had to be due to GERD.  As you read through the forum you will see you are not alone, in fact you are in very good company.
I am sorry to hear you experience panic attacks.  I certainly can understand this feeling.  If you want to read in the Anxiety and Panic forum do pop over there as you will find me there with many other members who deal with anxiety on a regular basis.
Good for you for making an appointment with the surgeon.  Stick with us as you will find the members are extremely knowledgable here in the GERD/Heartburn Forum.

Kind Regards,
