Good morning all
It is 4 am here in TX and my journey is about to begin.  I am a little nervous as I have been before other surgeries but am looking forward to having a normal (medically speaking) life again.

Mary-
It's great to hear all went well. The shoulder pain can be a "pain". Hehe! Make sure to get plenty of rest. I know all about trying to keep the dogs from jumping on you. They really just want to make you feel better. It's funny I am typing this on the pda again from the hospital.
Step 1 is over, welcome to the "Wrapped Club". Now step 2 is get plenty of rest and go slow with your diet. Remember to chew, chew, chew, and chew somemore. We are here for you anytime

Take care,
Bill

Hurrah Mary,  You are home and the surgery is behind you. Now rest and let your body tell you how you are feeling. Use your pain medication as you need it.  Try to stay ahead of your pain.

So they served you gourmet meals in the hosptial.  You should have had a baby as then you would get the steak dinner...............they  did not offer that when I had my children.

Post when you feel up to it.  We are not going anywhere so we are here for you. :-)

Gentle Hugs

ok Day 1 the surgery went well It lasted about 2 hours and I was in recovery fro about 3 hours. Could not stay awake was so groggy. I had to a barum swallow on day 2 so I could not have anything to eat or drink on day 1. Had not been out of bed at all on day 1. My morphine pump became my best friend that was untill the itching began. Did not notice the itching being this bad with my hysterectomy but this surgery they put inflatable compresion socks on me they felt good byt my legs began sweating which made the itching more intense so they gave me come benydryl. The surgery included the wrap the hiatal herian repair and a biopsies taken of my edophagus.

Day 2 got out oif bed so I could go to xray and have a barium swallow done. Hd not had anything to drink since Tues at midnight and the first thing i get was some nasty tasting dye. Took me back to my room and one of the doctors came to see me said the xray looked great there was no leaking and after I had a meal Iculd go home if i wanted to . This was about 11 AM they kept coming back to check on me to see if I had gotten a meal and finally around2PM I got food. Was it tasty I had pueed green benas, purredd chicken puree d pearsa nd mcome kind of soup looking micture. I alsw had banana pudding an iced tea. Wahy more food than I could eat, but it was delicious. I must have been hjungry. Surgeon came back and said it was up to me I could stay or go home. Was tempted to stay since Ilive alone but decided it would be better to be at home. My dear frined and neighbor kept an eye on me. Was released to late to get the pain meds filled had a very rough night about 5 pm they brought memore foodpureed checken pureed peas and mashec potatoes also had lemon puddding and tea.

DAy 3 Got my pain meds filled and am feeling pretty good as my tyoping probably shows. Want to take a shower but think I will wait till tomorrow I am pretty groggy Had some baby food crushed up my metformin and put it inside the babyffod was not to bad Well it is time to lay back down gettting a little sick to my stomach whicn is a sign I have been up too long Talk to you all later
. Pain is very tolerable now with hte liquid pain meds. So far I am happy the mafor reflu symtoms are gone still clearing my throat but that could be frm laying down so much. Good night all

Welcome home, Mary! Glad you're back in your own house...a much better place to recover. Too bad they didn't give you the pain med scripts before surgery, but it sounds like you managed, and now you're all set. That's good. If you get nausea, be sure to use anti-nausea meds should you get any urge to vomit. You won't want to do that with your brand new wrap!

I hope you get lots of rest--that'll help you get strong.
We're here for you! yeah yeah yeah yeah
Take care,
Denise

day 4
I am up and moving a little faster today had about a a cup of tomato soup was going to have chees soup but i did not have any milk to make it with think I will have some instant mashed potaotes for lunch. The pain has eased up some not enough to say good bye to the pain meds yet but long enough for me t sit up for a few minutes . I just took a shower that felt soooooooooooooooooo good. I could only reach to my knees but that was ok. I called my friend and told her I was taking a shower and that I woulld call her when I got out that way if she does not hear from me in an appropriate time she is over to my house to check on me. Am thinking of trying my apple and prune babyfood have not had a bowel movement ye have passed gass though. May give my body a few more days. Am ready to deal wth the bout of swelling that might happen will just take it easy. I popped on the scale andit showed i had gained about 10-15 pounds I hope that is with all the swelling that is going on

Thanks for all your support will will try to respond to other threads when I am feeling better. Sitting at the computer is a little onthe uncomfortable side

Glad your home and doing well Mary. Don't be surprized if you can't eat as much as you did before. Be really careful as eating even one bite too much will result in hours of discomfort. Barb

Day 5 is a little rough my shoulder pain is a bit more noticeable than it was. Thought it should be pretty much gone by now. I just keep on sucking down the pain medictions and trying to remember to eat. I think dinner today will be green beens, turkey or spaghetti and sweet corn. Of course these foods will be coming out of baby food jars. Yummy Yummy.
I am not trying to scare anyone off from this surgery. I will gladly take this tempoorary pain over the constant pain I had everyday. This pain is just a normal part of healing. I have had laproscopic surgery before and forgot how much fun the recovery was, but it is still better than ben cut open. I might try my gas x some of you had said that the gas x has helped with the shoulder pain. Still no bowel movements have been passing gas so I guess that is a good sign.

Well off to my usuall spot inthe house flat on my back watching TV
Love you all and thanks for the support Mary

Mary, what helped me with the shoulder pain was going to my chiropractor..why?, who knows, but it did help and I stayed with my gas-x and liquid motrin too.
Youwill get better, it does take time; just because this was a lap doesn't mean it wasn't major. People often confuse this issue. Your body has had a major trauma and it needs to recover...regardless of how quickly you want it to go, it has a mind of it's own..kind of reminds you of a baby!!

Hi Mary, Gas x was my pal after my last surgery. I have never had such pain from gas before. It was awful. They started me on it right after surgery and then told me to take it on a regular schedule of 9am/3pm/9pm. It really helped to take it on a schedule like that. If I forgot or went past the time I could tell the difference. I was told when they do the lap surgery they have to pump your abdominal cavity full of air to lift the wall up so they can move around in the tight space and they try to push as much out as possible before they sew you back up but there is still some left and it takes time for the body to get rid of it. I hope your feeling better real soon. Glad to hear your resting a lot. That's what your body needs right now. Barb
