its been 2 years now that I have an odd burning sensation at the bottom of my trachea (more like behind it..And on the left side).

Sometimes it almost disappear and sometimes it becomes almost painfull.

i have it on a daily basis.

it all started after I was sick with a serious infection in my throat (voice box).

I've tried: losec, pro-losec, zantec in case its reflux.
I've tried: flonase in case its a post-nasal-drip.

It keeps bugging me no matter what I do.

symptoms include:
-burning sensation a specially when I press on the area mentioned above with my fingers. (i feel a need to cough as a result of that..)
-when the sensation is strong I also have a white salty (?!) mucus, that comes from deep down my throat.
-sometimes when you drink/eat fast you start coughing as a result of food going the wrong way, the pain I feel comes straight from that area.
-i have no heartburn.
-i'm 100% healthy, thin, non-smoker, haven't been sick since 2 years.
-i'm not using any medication.

my thoughts:
-maybe its psychological??
-maybe its food allergy/normal allergy.
-maybe I still have nasty germs in my voice-box.

hope someone can give me a direction/solution.
i heard a lot of people that mention reflux etc. But i've never heard someone that has salty mucos coming out of his/her throat.

Thanks !

I have GERD and a pre-cancerous condition called Barretts Esophagus. I don't really ever experience symptoms of reflux (burning in my chest). However, I frequently cough up mucous and icky stuff. Occaisionally goes flying out of my mouth when coughing hard. Only thing I can say is that from time to time I get what almost feels like a sore or hole in my throat just above the collar bone. Oddly enough I have taken Claritin at it seems to settle down/go away. Only thing I can figure is that irritation caused some minor swelling and the anti-histamine effect of the allergy med makes it feel better. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply.
Sounds interesting what you said.
I think that there are a few differences between our symptoms.
How much time did it take you to get into this condition? (barretts...)
I feel great 99.9% of the time, i just get this itch/burn from time to time - it feels like there's a wound that just sits there, sometimes in a process of healing and sometimes opens up with a scorching sensation followed by a white 'salty' mucus that comes up from time to time.
I guess that i need to change some eating habbits.
Thanks again !

I have a weird burning sensation along my spine and across my shoulder blades. Lots of post nasal drip. Doc just looked down my throat and thinks I have heartburn. Right in the middle of my spine I feel the same thing you feel. Only time I've ever noticed heartburn symptoms is after I started heartburn medicine.

How can you tell where the mucus comes from? I've been spitting out a lot of clear jelly like thick mucus. I never cough it up. More of a sucking it down from my nose I think but really not sure where it's coming from. Flonase didn't help it neither did zyrtec or a decongestant.
