I am only 38 and I was wondering if that is pretty young to be having this surgery?

I do have another problem, Zenker's Diverticulum and the doctor said I am decades younger than anybody he has done this surgery on in the past.

Can you tell me of any complications anybody has had from the surgery that I should know about?

Thank you,

Fisherman

I have one more test to do before I get scheduled for it and I'm 26. I really want to try the new LINX procedure but it's not approved yet.

Fisherman,
I was 35 when I had my first and 38 when I had redo in May. I should have had it done when I was in my early twenties according to my surgeon and GI doctors. Wow, sounds like your doctor may not be up on this surgery. My last surgeon told me he does young children to seniors.
Kinda funny, I was in the Peds wing until last night and a couple of the Peds nurses didn't know hey did Nissens on anyone over 13. They thought it was only for children, because they see so many children getting it done.
Anyway, you are not the first to be told by their surgeon this is only for "older" people or you are too young to have this surgery. Let's see, they do it on infants and senior citizens, I don't think there is an age limit.
Hope all goes well for those heading into surgery, which ever one you choose.

Take care,
Bill

Griff-
Nope not too young, remember infants have this surgery all the time. I also remember someone on here has a child who had this at 13 I think. Maybe Kitt or Denise remembers that also?

I'm 34 and had it 17 days ago. 2 months earlier and I would of been 33.

Thanks for helping with that. I thought I remembered someone who was 13 on here talking about having this done and now being older and in need of a redo I think? Does this sound about right to you Joy?

There was a mom on here who's 13 year old son was going to have the EsophyX for the first time. She mention that her son's surgery was going to be delayed, because another surgeon had claimed the instruments were faulty. It turned out it was the surgeon's fault not the instruments.

No, I'd like to know how her son's surgery turned out. She was very worried.
