Hello all,

First of all, glad to find you guys and thanks for the support. Reading the stories makes me hopeful that at least I should be able to find what is wrong or in other words diagnose the problem.

It is 5 am and I cannot sleep since 2:30 because of burning in throat, So I had nothing better than reading the experiences here and then I thought I call for help and joined. Here is the story and I am grateful to your comments in advance.

about a year ago, out of the blue, I started having burning sensation in my throat (no pain or feeling in stomach) one night and It was bothering me even during the day. This happened after 3 month of relatively serious spinning in the gym and that's why I still think I may have Hernia (However, telling all the doctors I have seen, nobody seems to believe that's the case!)

It took me a month to try Prilosec which relatively controlled the case. I took the H-Pilory breath test and it was negative two times. Then I did the endoscopy and inflammation was observed while pathological results showed that I have issues with the H-Pilory. So, I took the typical medication to take care of bacteria and after that I took two months Nexium (1 pill a day, 40 mg) to help the tissue recover (since one of the doctore advised me that since I am young 33, that should be enough and I dont need to be on that permanently). However, I continued with prilosec (20 mg, 1 pill a day) to make things gradual. I was relatively Ok until about 3 months ago, I had another attack and contacting doctor he advised me to take another round of medication for H-Pilory. I did that and continued with Nexium again for a month.

I was ok till 3 nights ago as I started to have the burning in the throat again as bad as what I initially experienced (When I was not taking any PPI). After three nights, I am frustrated with all day burn and not enough sleep (2-4 hours/night). So, .... dont know what to say anymore!

I generally dont have any problem during eating, but pain starts afterwards and now it exists even if I dont eat or even after 6 hours of eating. I did change my diet since last year and use a wedge pillow to raise the head since 3 months ago, also lost about 20 lb since last year, which makes me having almost the right weight for my height.

Please let me know what you think and also, help me to understand

1. If Endoscopy shows if there is hernia or I need to do another test!
2. There was a comment about Aloe Vera Juice from Walgreen processed cold, which eliminated the problem for two members! Do I have to try that?
3. I am currently in DC area and looking for the right doctor in this area. Can anyone please recommend me one in DC/Maryland/Virginia to help me diagnose the problem?

Thanks again,

Good Days

If you are not seeing as GI dr, make an appointment.  If you are and he is not progressive find another one.  I had all sorts of tests but none showed the HH.  However, when I saw the bariatric surgeon for my Nissen he was sure that I did have a HH.  Sure enough after surgery he did tell me there was one there.

Next time you see the GI dr ask him if there is a definate test that will show a HH.  I had an endoscopy and the GI didn't see the HH.  I would guess maybe it is not always visable.

Hope things are better soon rolleyes

I agree, find you a good GI. The throat burn sound like the acid is in your throat. There are several tests that you will probably have:
barium swallow (easy)
Stomach emptying (nothing to it)
endoscopy (easy as long as your asleep)
Bravo (hardly know it's beening done)
Manometry (no fun...a struggle of mind over matter.... go to your happy place and you'll survive)

Hello and welcome to HealingWell.  I am so glad you decided to read and found this awesome group.  Welcome to the family.  You will find everyone here is very wise and supportive.
I too would recommend you find a new GI Doctor and start getting some tests done.  Make sure your GI Doc has a good reputation in your area.  Ask around and make informed consents.
You need to get to the bottom of your problems and we do not want to see you up all night in pain.
Again  warm welcome to our newest member.
I wish you peace,
