Hello all,

Can anyone tell me if they have used this medication and did it work XIFAXAN because it sounds like it isn't covered by my insurance and out of pocket is $120.00 for 9 pills.Any thing me Dr. hasn't come out and said I have GERD but from the notes from the hospital it says

Indications:Dysphagia, chronic gerd, abdominal pain and long term nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug usage. Now doesn't that sound like I have Gerd????Why don't they tell you what was Dx's I just don't understand the Drs. at time and thats why you should get the notes from any appointment.

Thanks,
Mary

Mary, I had to look this up, I had never heard of it. This is an antibiotic most commonly used to treat traveler's diarrhea that is generally caused by e-coli. I've heard it's becoming more and more common in our country though because of so many different reason, dirty food being a big cause.
Good luck,
Janice

Mary, it can be both but it can progress. Mine started as mild but chronic and now it's not mild at all but it also isn't bacterial. Have they done any tests..blood work, endoscopy with biopsies?

Ldyjane thanks for responding so fast.

Yes they did a endoscopy and colonoscopy and thats how I found the information from the notes.Biopsy they removed a nodule but it WASN'T cancerous. And that was one thing the Dr. said today the bacteria in my stomach and to take the meds. right away because my stomach has been distention for many months. And they also said I have pouches in my colon. This is all new to me and I'm hoping someone that might have had the samething going on can tell me what to expect from the meds.and the colon pouches. What should I stay away from???????I'm sure seeds and nuts.ANY info.

pouches, to me, sounds like diverticulitis. I have little to no knowledge about it and would contact your Dr. for information; I would also check the internet....again, this is just a guess.

Diverticulitis is nasty. It runs in my family and my sister just had a 6 inch section of her colon removed for it. If you have this stay away from nuts, seeds of any type including strawberries, etc. No tomatoes, no skins like apples etc. No cucumbers, no sesame seeds either. There is a HUGE list of what not to eat if you have this.
