about 2 1/2 weeks ago i had nissen fundoplication, a classic wrap. tonight im getting similar symptoms to how i used to... burping tons (not swallowing of air, least i dont think), my left hand feels like it's not getting enough blood into it (which i was told is numbness/tingling but it doesn't feel like that), and my chest feeling tight. I was told it was GERD related etc, and that it was in relation to my low potassium count (this all told in ER before). Should i go back to eating yogurt and banana every dang day again? The same feeling came back about a week after i ended up in er that one time and went away, i was eating a banana and yogurt everyday...
So my question is.. will this pass and is part of healing or what? do i need a redo even though the only thing i can think of that would have caused the wrap to undo is my deplug but i dont think thats rite because that same night a pill got stuck in my throat.
i dont understand:( any help?

If you're low in potassium I'd eat lots of bananas and if you can drink OJ.

Everything I've read from the others is you're going through the 2 week phase of swelling. I hope it calms down.

Griff-
Getting unplugged may have aggrivated the wrap and set you back a few days. Try to relax and maybe take atep backward on the diet for a few days and let things calm down. It doesn;'t take much to get the wrap angry in the early weeks.

Take care,
Bill

Hi Griff,
I know the feeling--the worry that you've done something to ruin the surgery. Been there, done that. During the first weeks (and to some degree, months) of recovery, your wrap will be very sensitive, and will react to any "assault". I'll even get a reaction if a pill gets stuck, or I eat something that's rough or irritating, and I'm 8 months post op.

I remember eating some Pad Thai too early, and ouch...I actually got reflux. My doc said that the wrap is swollen in the early weeks, and pretty much anything is possible. I was sure that my wrap was a failure, and that I was going to have to have another one. Also, I had a lung infection and coughed my guts out a couple times a day, which I was also worried about.

Long story short...you have no need to worry regarding to ruining your wrap. The pill getting stuck, will DEFINITELY irritate the wrap, and give you symptoms. When something like that happens you're in for a few days of discomfort, but this too will pass.

I don't know about the palpatation and arm/hand symptoms. If that is helped by banana and yogurt, I'd definitely get them back into your diet. You could mash the bananas and mix them with some plain or vanilla yogurt. If it's hard to eat it all at once, just take all day to eat it.

Sorry to hear you're struggling a bit, but be assured that this too will pass. Try to relax and trust, and follow your recovery's lead. If you can surrender to the path it takes, you'll find your recovery to be much easier. Try to find a way to relieve your stress and take your mind off your worries. You've had a major rehaul of your GI tract, so it'll take some time for your body to adjust.

We're here for you, Griff! Any twinge you feel that is worrisome, just let us know. It's likely that one of us has experienced it!
Have a great day.
Denise
