I have had 3 surgeries in the past 4 yrs for Subglottic Tracheal Stenosis and need to schedule another one now. No reason for my condition, never had an accident and never had any acid reflux. Doctors have no idea how I developed this. All 3 surgeries have been dialation and steroid injections. I am told the only way to permanently fix my situation is major surgery to replace the part of the trachea that keeps collapsing. For now, I will continue with the dialations.
I, too, start saying a sentence and before I am thru, I am gasping for a breath. Mornings are the worse with sinus drainage - my vocal chords get stuck for which makes the stenosis even worse - NO AIR gets thru a stuck vocal chord. Have fallen to the ground before gasping for breath just praying to just pass out - my son dialed 911 and all of a sudden the vocal chord opened.
Best of luck to everyone going thru this same situation - it's frustrating and very scarry.
If anyone has had the replacement surgery, please post a response so I know what to expect when I finally make that decision.
