I just found this forum as I searched for throat stenosis in GOOGLE.. :)   I will be having my narrowed throat operated on in about a month.. haven't scheduled the surgery just yet but will this week.
I'm scared to death.  Could possibly be trached and it could be permanent!  :-o  was just wondering if anyone in here has had the laser/dilating surgery done.  The narrowed spot is right by my vocal chords and they 'think' it's caused by GERD... been on Nexium since 2005 and am now gonna try Prilosec.  tried them all back in 2005 but didn't give Prilosec a good try.  Nexium doesn't seem to be working anymore.
I had an attempted surgery on Oct 8 but the doc couldn't get to the spot so he referred me to Seattle.... I can't breathe with escursion.. this has been going on since approx. January...

Last year I under went surgery for a Trachea Stenosis, it is believed it was caused by a car accident I was in, in August 2008.  I went to the doctors because I thought I had asthma, or something like that.  I was having difficulty breathing, particularly when I ran up the stairs or did something fast.  I had a cough, too, which I had gone into the doctors the year before, he couldn't find anything wrong.  So, in March 2011 I had surgery, lazer, ballooning, to fix the problem.  My wind pipe was closed to 90% when they went in.  Now, 10 months later, I am having the same symptoms and I am looking at having surgery again, within the next few weeks, though a date hasn't been set.  It is very frustrating because I am a very active person and so it slows me down.  At times I have diffiulty talking and have to gasp for air.  If any of you have had something like this, let me know what you did to stop this and not need constant surgery!  THANKS!

I have had 3 surgeries in the past 4 yrs for Subglottic Tracheal Stenosis and need to schedule another one now.  No reason for my condition, never had an accident and never had any acid reflux.  Doctors have no idea how I developed this.  All 3 surgeries have been dialation and steroid injections.  I am told the only way to permanently fix my situation is major surgery to replace the part of the trachea that keeps collapsing.  For now, I will continue with the dialations.
I, too, start saying a sentence and before I am thru, I am gasping for a breath.  Mornings are the worse with sinus drainage - my vocal chords get stuck for which makes the stenosis even worse - NO AIR gets thru a stuck vocal chord.  Have fallen to the ground before gasping for breath just praying to just pass out - my son dialed 911 and all of a sudden the vocal chord opened.
Best of luck to everyone going thru this same situation - it's frustrating and very scarry.
If anyone has had the replacement surgery, please post a response so I know what to expect when I finally make that decision.

My doctors noted that I have swelling/Narrowing of my trachea. I'll have to look into the facebook page and read more about this issue.
