Hi, finally had to join a forum and see if anyone has any ideas on whats up with me..

It started 2 weeks ago, i felt a sort of flutter on the left side, then..i ould feel blood rushing to my chest/head..and was positive was having heart attack..
Went to Hospital - ECG's revealed no abnormaility. Stress test revealed no heart anomalies (only that im in bad shape heh).
Doctor prescribed Nexium, after 2 weeks no difference. The problem im having now is in my breathing my throat feels tight, swollen and i feel like im not
getting enough oxygen from whast im breathing in. Dizzy almost all the time.

Its quite scary feelin as if your on the way out from moment to moment..

the only thing that lessens the symptoms is a sleeping aid called Zopiclone which i had previously..
i dont know how a sleeping pill can regulate symptoms like these, ?

Anyonr ehave a similar situation?

i feel the same thing, been on anf off (mostly on) for the last few months..

when i am on zantac.. 2 a day, i can usually make it through the day..

yesterday, i only took one in the morning and had a late dinner (8pm), today i feel like trash... light headed and sore chest, when to the gym.. thought my heart was going to fail doing cardio..

i am going to take a total of 2 today, and see if i feel better tomorrow..

i am going to talk to my doctor about switching to nexium... i really hate being a pill popper thoguh and wish i could find a natural cure.

its been 2 weeks on nexium and that doesnt seem to have made any difference to symptoms
I havent been diagnosed with asthma but did do a pulminary function test yesterday just waiting for result..
as for stress im hoping that is the case..i guess, anything but the heart.

Its a mystery it may well be stressed if a sedative like zopiclone eliminates some of the sumptoms

Welcome to HealingWell. If I read correctly you were seen in the ER for a medical screening exam to see if you had an emergency and were treated for heartburn or possibly GERD. I would like to suggest that you follow up with a GI specialist who would schedule you for some testing.

If you are having breathing issues you may want to make that an internal medicine physician who would have a broad base knowledge of both breathing disorders and GI problems.

Please let us know how you are doing?

Take care,

Kitt

Thanks for the warm welcome..

I got test results back showing Upper GI and lower abdomen had no problems..
My doctor is now trying to say it is all in my head..
even after i tell him anxiety medication does not work on this problem..
I still have difficulty sitting down for extended periods, and my brething feels wrong
as if something is stuck in my throat..still bloated.

What do i need to tell these doctors so that they direct me to the correct specialists,
because obviuosly this is out of my particular physicians depth.

Referral to Gastroentologist or pulminologist?

Also what helps you guys relieve the "Stuck in throat" sensation?

Thank you
Martin

You said "stuck in throat" feeling.... Hmmm.
Try this:
1. Stand in front of a mirror
2. tilt your head back so you sort of stretch your throat
3. Drink a large swallow of water
4. Watch your throat closely
If you see a bulging just about at your collarbone as the water passes it maybe a goiter. If you see something ask your doctor to do a full thyroid panel on you.

Just a thought...

I tried that and didnt seem to notice any lump.

The two main areas are my lower abdomen is where i feel tightness, and the breathing, almost as if something is sretching
my entire stomach/espophagus syetm from the bottom.
I see now how complex this is going to be to determine a cause

So they tested heart, but what tests die they do for reflux? 'Stuck in throat" sounds like a problem with swallowing. They would be able to see if there is anything going on with a barium swallow.

Zopiclone - aka Lunesta, one of the "Z" drugs is pretty addicting. I hope you aren't taking it on a regular basis.

There are no anti-reflux drugs, only anti-acid. Acid isn't the cause of reflux, it's the other way around. Reflux allows the stomach acid into the esophagus. Are you on any antidepressants? They can cause the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) to relax and allow the reflux to happen.

See the threads at the top of the forum page. Lots of great info there!

GERD is weird. It does different things to different people. My surgeon told me it was just recently that they were starting to connect GERD with asthma. I think they are still learning exactly what GERD can do to the body.
