Wish I had better news to post here, but things are not going well. My swallowing gets easier with each passing day, and I'm beginning to eat more solid food. But while the incisions are healing nicely, and the internal healing is going well, my symptoms are shockingly worse than before the surgery. I have had pretty bad hoarseness for the last week as well as a burning feeling or tightness in my lungs/chest. I can't confirm any regurgitation, so that at least is a good thing. I know many here have encouraged me to be patient and allow myself to heal, but I can't ignore the fact that my symptoms have gotten progressively worse over the last 10 days or so. From everything I've read here, I should begin to feel some improvement at this point as the swelling of the wrap continues to go down. It's just the opposite. I'm really pissed and disappointed, but I'm not giving up hope just yet.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with my surgeon and she's going to send me for an Upper GI to make sure that everything still looks good. I'll keep you guys posted.

Also, I've just started doubling my dose of meds just to see if that has any effect: 2 Aciphex twice a day, and 300mg Zantac at night.

I welcome your advice or comments.

Thanks.

Cheers,
J

Maybe it's the swelling?

I hope everything goes well.

Hi scarlet, I will be 21 days tomorrow post op for the nissen and i still have the tightness in my chest and under my rib cage, especially after i eat, and heaven forbid i should eat just alittle too much then i sit for hours in pain. but i have been encouraged from everyone here that it is still healing and the swelling peaks at 2 and 3 weeks, so i don't expect much improvement for another couple weeks. I still take my pain meds at nite so i can get some much needed rest. I've always been told while we are resting our bodies are healing, so i try to rest as much as possible at nite at least. I still can't eat too many different things, they still feel like they are getting stuck and i keep having the feeling after i eat to just burp, but that is hard to do. So i think we are both still very much in the healing process yet, so hang in there and keep your chin up and know you are not alone. I still have days of very deep depression so i know i'm being impatient but this is something i guess we just can't rush no matter how much we want to. Best of luck and hope you feel better soon.
