Hi kjones,

Welcome to Healing Well! I’m glad you’ve found some helpful information here. This is a very old thread—I suggest that you might want to post an introductory thread on the main page. It will help others see your post and comment or provide support.

Yep, echoing that it sounds like "silent" reflux. For me, it's more of a citrus or chlorine taste. Totally weird until you figure out what it is. smile I never have heartburn, either, so it took me a while.

What helps me most is being upright (I have chronic illnesses that keep me reclined most days), not drinking carbonated beverages, eating small meals, not eating after 5 p.m., digestive enzymes, digestive bitters, probiotics, and if all else fails, then Alka-Seltzer Gold.

Good luck.

I just had this minty sensation/taste in my mouth for the first time when I was sitting outside. It struck me as so odd, I searched around for it - which led me here.

I'm on my second day of taking the antibiotic Nitrofurantoin. It makes me feel pretty icky, but overall it isn't too bad on its own. about 30 minutes before the symptoms started, I took 2 GasEx. It kinda felt like there was some interaction there - which is further strengthened by people mentioning antibiotics and gasex in earlier posts. I'm hoping that's it for now!

I just recently had bloodwork and an a1c1 screening for diabetes - and both came out perfectly normal. I do have IBS and what I can only assume is silent reflux (I don't get the burning sensation - just bloated and sick). It has been well-handled by diet & lifestyle changes along with Prilosec every 4-6 months or so. I did a colonoscopy not too long ago to make sure and aside from some mild irritation, there was nothing else.

(I know this is an old thread, but it's such a unique symptom!)

Hello all,

I have also ended up here searching for minty taste in mouth. I don't get the cool feeling that much but the taste in my mouth lasts for two three weeks and affect my tasting buds, as everything has a minty flavour. I've had this on and off for 20 years and for me, it is related to mint and peppermint because I get it if I eat minty candies or gum, which I avoid now. I also wondered if false sugar with the mint could cause this. Eating fresh mint can make me burp menthol, which is very strange, but the taste doesn't last in my mouth, as mint flavouring does.

Some people mentioned having this after a cold, I was wondering if cough drops and sirop could be the cause. I cannot take them as most have mint, menthol in them.

I have it now and couldn't recall eating anything minty...and then remembered I used cherry chapstick. Checked the ingredients and found out there is menthol in it.

Hi there I found my way here googling the minty taste in my mouth. Are people still suffering with these symptoms. Mine started off as a perfume/soap taste in my mouth which has now turned to a minty taste like I have been eating soft mints. Its driving me mad.

Minty taste- feels like you’ve just brushed your teeth ...constant heightened sensation in mouth.
Went to doctors, never heard of it, which as everyone says is wierd because there are lots of people experiencing same thing. Went to dentist , nothing but he did refer me to nasal specialist for look at sinus issues. Consultant looked with nose camera , indicating nothing wrong with sinus but asked if I had been suffering with acid reflux as back of my throat was very red, which I had been but only noticed 4-5 days before going. Treatment was 3 months omeprazole. Not sure if it was linked to reflux but minty taste came back this week (12 months past now with no minty) and funnily enough nose feels bit sinusy again.
So my experience is that it’s either sinus related or reflux related, cannot be definitive , sorry all. All I know is that it’s bloody annoying!
