I was wondering:  how long after diagnoses of having Barret's did you need the operation to fix the problem?  Is it really necessary to do PH testing and manometry before the op?

Smiley- if you are talking about ablation procedure (Halo, Cryo) to specifically get rid of the BE tissue, you don't need to really wait-though you should be on PPI's or something that controls your acid. i waited about 3 months. If you are talking about reflux surgery (like nissen, etc.), then you will need to have some of the tests done. Though--many leading GI DRs here in MN conclude that if you have BE you hconcludiave GERD so they don't typically bother with PH testing and things like that--just the Esophageal motility (rate at which your ESO passes food and liquids) test to understand how tight your wrap needs to be. Again- I would say 3 months and with the right tests to see if you are a candidate you can get the surgery. MM

I just had the Nissen Wrap, but do not have Barrett's.
My father has had Barrett's for several years and his doc is happy controlling it with diet and meds. I'm sure it depends on the severity. Maybe age is also a factor? My father is in his 60s.
Hope you are better soon!
