Hey there,

Glad to hear you are getting your GB out and hopefully your heartburn will decrease.

Have you tried and OTC Mylanta liquid ? That used to work well for me when I had heartburn. Now I just chewed a couple of rolaids.

Also watch what you eat and be aware of what foods trigger the heartburn. I had my GB removed and proceeded to have heartburn after surgery when I ate the wrong things so do be aware that surgery does not always cure all.

I know you will do well so sending you healing vibes.

Take care,

Kitt

Hi, good luck with surgery, Myhusband had his GB out and is delighted!

I will be very interested in your experience. They wanted to remove my GB but did no tests (an ultrasound which found one small polyp but that's it), so I elected to keep it, given that I knew I had GERD and sort of suspected maybe that was it.

What made them think GB for you? Did you have stones? Did they do tests?

I see that Kitt had hers out too...

Will send you lots of prayers!!

Hi Kimber,
Are you sure that the reflux is acid and not bile? I understand that bile reflux is common with gall bladder disease. If you're on acid suppressors and still have reflux irritating your esophagus and giving you a sour mouth, it's more likely to be bile. I'm dealing with that myself at the moment.

One thing that will give you some relief is Carafate suspension. I was just at the GI doc and he said that's what they prescribe to neutralize bile is Carafate. I was suffering for a long time--taking PPI's and Maalox, when I suddenly remembered I had some Carafate in my closet. It was like magic...the relief was immediate. My need to Maalox has gone down dramatically. Carafate coats your esophagus and stomach, and really helps a lot.

Carafate is an old drug that isn't absorbed into your body, so it really doesn't have any side effects. One it may have is constipation, but I've never had a problem with it. (I do drink a lot of water, though.)

Good luck with your surgery! Be sure to come back and let us know how things are going!
Take care,
Denise

Kimber-
Good Luck with the surgery Tuesday. When my gallbladder stopped working I would have attacks for around 36 hours at a time. What a relief to have it removed.
I am thinking the same as Denise about the heartburn. Probably bile and not acid. Both can cause bad heartburn.

Take care,
Bill
