Right now I am taking Prevacid 30 mg once a day... I take it in the morning, but late at night or during sleep I have some heartburn... can I take a zantac instead of another Prevacid? Is it okay to mix?

I used to take Prevacid 30mg twice a day and I'd often take a Zantac 150 at bedtime. I never noticed any bad side effects from that. Another thing you could try is buying Prevacid 24HR over the counter, which is a 15mg dose and take one of those at bedtime. I stopped taking the Zantac at bedtime quite a while ago and found I got better results from taking two extra strength Gaviscon instead. As long as your stomach is almost empty at bedtime, your stomach won't make a lot of new acid during the night, so something like Gaviscon can neutralize what acid is left over from dinner.

Hi Mike,
For many years I was on a combination of PPI's and Zantac.  My PCP had me on a PPI in the morning, then 300mg Zantac at bedtime.  There is no problem mixing the two.
Good luck finding an answer to your heartburn issues.  Have you tried elevating the head of your bed?
I'm sure others will be by soon to add to this discussion.
Best wishes,
Denise

I was on two 40mg of nexium a day with a 300mg zantac at bedtime.
The high doses did cause polyps to develop in my stomach that were harmless.
