I have acid reflux, without heartburn. The worst part for me is that I have a horrible taste in my mouth at all times. I have been on every ppi med. you can think of, nothing helps. I started to watch what I'm eating, trying to stay away from acidic foods. I don't want to talk to anyone to their face for I know this will be a disaster. I see people cover their nose and mouth when I talk and I 'm  maybe 6 feet away. Does anyone have any ideas for this problem, my doctor said so calmly, just chew a piece of gum. If only it was that easy. I have tried everything.

Hi there. I have terrible taste in my mouth too. I havent had a kiss for ages, I feel too self conscious. The only thing I have found helps is drinking loads of water an eating something that kind of soaks things up, like a cracker. I do find gum helps my symptoms a lot though, and ginger tea and peppermint tea, although many people find peppermint aggravates gerd, so be careful.

This condition has made me dislike doctors tbh. They seem to have no sympathy and no understanding whatsoever.

Hello and welcome to HealingWell. I have read that eating a apple in the evening closest to bed time or take table spoon of apple cider vinegar mix with honey works for some.

Good luck,

It sounds like you suffer from Silent GERD. It's a very irritating thing.
I used to suck on breath mints all the time.

I have this too but since my fundo surgery 12 days ago, I still have it, so I'm quite confused now. It was what alerted me to the return of my reflux in the first place as I don't get any heartburn.

You're still swollen from the surgery, it's normal to have some reflux while you're still swollen.

Hi Hexed,

Are you sure your symptoms are from acid reflux? Have you had your tonsils checked for fissures? How about gum disease?

Hi Hexed,

My endo explained that the bad taste from GERD is due to bacteria in the mouth or throat. The acid can actually come all the way up into the mouth and sinus cavities. He suggested using a vinegar (ACV) to rinse the mouth and throat. It helped me.

I woke up this morning, 17 days post surgery and I didn't have the bad taste. I didn't think I had it yesterday either but I wasn't sure. Hopefully it's all gone now, but I won't speak to soon.

Read, if you have a sore throat it is probably from the acid burning it. It travels back up your throat and into your mouth causing all sorts of problems. Sore throat is how I first knew I had reflux. Stress and anxiety make this problem worse. Maybe there are further treatments you could explore with the help of your GP?
