I had my pre-op appt today. Surgery is scheduled for May 10th. He said it was weird that all of the tests came back normal except for the swallow test but the bravo only measures acid and it could be bile that's coming up. I guess the radiologist said there's no evidence of the wrap but definitely reflux going on. He said a stitch might have popped or the wrap could have been compromised when he did the EGD. He's going to do exploratory lap surgery and possibly redo the wrap. If the wrap looks good and is in place, he's not sure what to do. He also suggested I get another HIDA scan but said he would look at my gall bladder while he's in there messing around and possibly remove it. He said there will be less incisions but will make them on the same ones as last time and I should be able to go home later that day. I sure hope this fixes the problem since he's out of ideas. Second time is a charm right?

Hi Michelle,
What are your symptoms? I'm sure you've posted other places, and I've read some of them, but refresh me. Good luck with the redo.

I'm still having reflux, I can feel it coming back up. I get really nauseous and full when I eat even a little bit. I've been eating very bland and usually only once a day to try to lessen the symptoms which seems to help. The meds aren't helping at all.

Michelle -
Good luck and I a, sure they will get to the bottom of it. They had to do an exploratory on me and that's how they found out my first one was wrong. It took them a little over 4.5 hours to redo mine.

Take care,
Bill

Thanks guys. I hope this will be the end of it.

Bill, my dr is scheduling a 1 1/2 hour window but there will be two surgeons there so I'm hoping they don't miss anything.

Good luck, Michelle. I'm sure you'll feel better after the 10th. I'll bet you can't wait to get to the other side. Best wishes for a very successful surgery and comfortable recovery. Keep us all posted!

Going home the same day - if they do anything but look inside you - is a really bad idea. I would talk to the surgeon again and ask to stay at least overnight if they take out the gallbladder or re-do the wrap. You're going to have general anesthesia and will be out of it. You don't want the IV yanked too soon if there'a any possibility of needing anything - like maybe zofran or another antinausea med and can't swallow right away.

This idea of going home is like having a baby and going home the same day. That's not allowed anymore, and neither should serious surgery with a possibility of not being able to take food and medication by mouth.

I agree with Alcie. They want to send me home the day of the surgery I told him I didn't think I could be okay going home that soon and they let me stay until 11 the next day. Tell him you would like stay to stay longer.

I'm having it at 11:15 am so I guess I have until 10:15 the next morning but he said if I'm up to it, I can go home the same day. I'm sure I won't go home until the next morning. I'm going to ask for the dissolvable Zofran this time instead of the pills. And make sure he gets most of the air out, that shoulder pain was worse than anything. He said he's never had this happen before so I was the first that it didn't work on.

Hey Michelle! Glad to know everything is going good! 3 days left, the countdown begins. I'm not getting nervous since I know what to expect now but I'm getting worried it might not work again. I'm trying to figure out a plan so I can take it easy but somewhat coming up blank. I go in on Monday and my fiance took off work Monday and Tuesday. Other than that I think I'll be on my own. shakehead

Don't lift the baby!
Have your older child help with getting him up and down. They will love being mommy's little helpers.
If that's not possible, have an pre-teen of a neighbor to help you out. Offer a trade for them, take them to the mall, or a movie for helping out.

I'm home!!! I have 6 new incisions now so that's 11 total. The surgeon said he put 3 new stitches in the wrap but left my gall bladder. l can still burp, obviously tender. I think they really need to teach these nurses how to put ivs in! The first nurse couldn't get my vein so she would pull the needle almost all the way out and shove it back in, wiggle it around and do it again. I timed her before she gave up so I wouldn't smack her, took 7 minutes! I have a huge bruise now! My throat is pretty sore, wasn't last time but my shoulder pain isn't as bad. I'll take a sore throat over that pain any day! They gave me pureed chicken noodle soup yesterday nono so I just had my jello. When I talked to the surgeon this morning he said they can give me soft foods so I had scrambled eggs and apple sauce which went down just fine. I'm still pretty groggy. So far no reflux so I hope it stays that way.

Hi Michelle,
So glad your surgery is behind you and you're "re-wrapped!"  I'm happy to hear you're feeling pretty well.  Try not to worry if you get a few little "reflux" feelings as you're healing.  It can be very normal.  I know it can drive you crazy, but try not to overreact and assume it's a problem.  It's so easy to think the worst!

Glad your shoulder pain is better this time around and that you're eating fine.  That's good to hear.  Be sure to get up and walk around as much as possible to keep any gas at bay, and not allow the shoulder pain to start.

Take it easy and get lots of rest.  Happy eating!

Thanks guys! I'm happy to have it over and on the road to recovery. The shoulder pain is kicking in full force. My throat is still pretty sore so I've been taking Ricola. I haven't been feeling hungry at all but had a few spoons of pudding and a few sips of coffee. I'm pretty frustrated with the "help" I have or lack of. I haven't taken any pain meds since the Tylenol at the hospital yesterday. For some reason they put bandaids over the steri strips of 3 incisions which I need to take off during my shower today. Not looking forward to that.
