After 5 years of suffering form GERD, I finally made up my mind and oped for surgery. This wasnt an easy decision for me to make. I have tried almost all the PPIs in
combined with H2 blockers. Most of the PPI dont work and when they do work they cause me to have blurred vision and photo sensitivity. I have all so tried the natural approach as well eg DGL, Alo Vera Juice, Acupuncture and Probiotics. But none really helped me. Over the last few months I have experience constant nausea to a point where I had to go the emergency room. I will keep you guys posted on my progress after surgery. Hopefully I will be a part of the happily wrapped group yeah

Will guys I just got home and I am feeling well, but a bit sore. I have no nausea nor pain and I am able to burp. My surgery was at 7:45am this morning and I was doing so well after surgery they sent me home at 5pm. The staff at this hospital seem to be very knowledgeable the Nissen procedure. I was given water and apple to sip in very small measured amount and I was hocked up to an Iv with pain meds and anti-nausea meds. I know I am in the early stage of healing but I will be keeping my fingers cross and hope that everything goes smoothly form this point on. I well keep you guys posted daily

Stay on liquids until the swelling goes down (about two weeks).

Guys sorry it took me so long to update my status, but I was in the hospital for the past 5 days with a fever. As most of you know I had my surgery last thursday and went home the same day, but about 2 day after I developed a low grade fever and went back to the hospital. They did an x-ray and CT scan and found that my liver was inflamed. The surgeon told my he thinks my problem stem form a blood vessel they had cut during surgery, which cause my liver to get inflamed, with cause the fever I have. I was given a combination of antibiotics through IV and had to stay in the hospital until my liver numbers come down. Throughout my whole ordeal I wasn't feeling sick just a bit sore, which was a good thing because staying in a hospital that long was enough to drive me nutsyeah. But today I out and feeling fine. I am at the one week mark and I can feel my body healing, compared to the first few days. The fist day when my girl friend drive my home form surgery I could feel every bump in the road and today on my way back I felt nothing. I had pain when I swallowed and burped but as of today thats no more. I find that my stomach even hold more now than the pass few days when I could only drink half a glass of water, now I can drink a full glass. Even though I have been in the hospital for the pass few day I have no re-grates. All in all my fellow wrappers life is good. turn

Hi Outlaw,
Glad to hear that you're back out of the hospital and on the road to recovery. Too bad you had that little bump in the road, but it sounds like you're doing well. Happy to have you as a full-fledged member of our "Wrapped Club"! Be sure to stick around. If you have any questions or need some feedback from others who have gone through the same procedure, we're here for you!
Take care,
Deninse

Outlaw,
We're definitely here to help each other. If those of us who have been more recently wrapped "pay it forward" we can continue to make this forum the lifesaver that it was for us when we needed it. This forum was an oasis in a desert of negativity on the
internet. The people here gave me the courage to go forward with the surgery, and supported me before, during, and after.
I'll be forever grateful.

I agree that the people here are life savers!!!
I had a terrible 6 weeks of recovery and everyone here was such a help in talking about their experiences and it helped me to know that what I was experiencing was normal and that I too would get through this.
I can see why the Doctors don't tell you about the recovery!!!
It all makes sense to me now of why my GP looked me in the eyes at my pre-op and said "you DO realize how serious this operation is?" I just shook my head and said "yes", not having a clue of what I was in for.
I again just like "Denise" thanks everyone here for their support and words of wisdom!!

Agree that this forum was the only place I could get real information and real advice for my recovery. I don't have much experience or advice - only 2 weeks post-op now, and very straightforward so far (touch wood) but happy to stick around and help wherever I can.

Without this place I wouldn't have mustard up the courage to go through with my surgery. I feel just like Denise when she said "pay it forward".

Life is good!
