GERD or ulcer?

Hi everyone.. ever since I took the Lexapro for two days, I've had GERD pretty badly. Although it's much better than it was, it seems that every time I try to drink water on an empty stomach I get a sharp pain by my left breast (where I usually have my GERD pains).

I'm afraid I have an ulcer because I read that eating relieves ulcer pain but not GERD pain.. has anyone else experienced this?

PS-sorry if I'm being paranoid or annoying. I have a lot of health related anxiety lately. Thanks.

Hello and I am sorry your GERD has flaired on you but try not to anticipate the worse case scenario.

You may want to check with your Dr. and see if he/she wants to run a test for H. pylori. Looking back at your other thread I see you were on Zantac which is a medication also used for Peptic Ulcers.

The Lexapro should have worn off by now, in my humble opinion.

Take care and again do check in with your Dr. to see what is up.

Kindly,

Kitt

Thanks.. I just hope it didn't do any real damage! It is much better than it was but I keep getting the dull ache on the left side.. seems to always be on the left! I'm gonna call the doc today and see what he says. Thanks.

Do you have a gall bladder? If so, it could be gall stones.

My sister hurts there when her gall bladder's acting up.

Sounds more like erosion near the LES valve than an ulcer to me. I've never had an ulcer, but your pain sounds a little high up to be from an ulcer.

Eating can temporarily relive GERD pain too, since there's no stronger antacid than food (but the effect is only temporary because the food quickly triggers to production of acid!)

Thank you everyone! I thought it could be my gallbladder but was told that was right side pain.. maybe they were wrong!

If it is erosion, would it really be treated differently than regular GERD?

When I ate lunch today, it just filled me up like crazy.. like, to the point of feeling like throwing up from fullness (not nauseated). It's 3 hours later and I still feel quite full. I do have a Gastric Band but this isn't a usual feeling for me. I did eat the food really quickly so maybe that's part of the cause. Also maybe just everything is so swollen up from the GERD or whatever that it's causing the area around my band to be more constricted.. I'm going to get the fluid taken out of the band, at least for awhile, until some of these problems go away.

I really need to work on my stress and anxiety.. I've now convinced myself that I have gastric cancer just because of the early fullness feeling.. I'm crazy.. literally! :(

Thanks for all the insight and advice.

Gastric bands are not good for gerd. If your les is weak the band pushes food against it more causing reflux problems.

Nod.. I was told that the resulting weight loss would help the GERD.. and it has been a very long time since I have had an episode like this.. in fact, GERD was a complication they listed to help the insurance approve the lap band. Sigh! Oh well, I will get an unfill and go from there. Unfills seem to help the GERD or any slippage issues a good bit. I guess if it continues to be very bad I will try to throw together the money to have it removed.. but we're a long way from that point hopefully :)
