Gerd11     This is my week 9

I know what you meant about still having the burning.

I dont have that in my chest anymore, but my tongue burns and sometimes my gums.

I have raised my bed and that makes my hips and back hurt.     STill taking my meds and have added another one before the evening meal.

I am currently looking for another surgeon to consult.     Really trying to check this out.

I am alson having computer problems so if I dont answer its not because I am ignoring anyone.

I live in Pa.    I am approximately 2hours from UPMC hospital in Pittsburgh.

Although my neighbor had this done 10 years ago with a doctor that is about 45 min. from my house, but I dont know about Ro-doing with them.   I might give them a call to see.              He said he is great...so that was incouraging.

I've heard great things about that hospital on the net.

Good luck!

I have an appointment scheduled in Pittsburgh, Shady Side Hospital on July 22.    I am really nervous about this appointment.

I have the Bravo, scope scheduled and those other fun tests that I never had done.    The one for motility and the one that they leave the wire in for 24hours.    I am thinking that I have been so miserable with the acid reflux that I can stand these tests too.

I am really concerned about going without my meds before these tests.     Did you have these.   How did you do without your acid reflux meds before the tests.

Thanks

They are doing both the Bravo and the ph wire test? That's kinda redundent. They both do the same thing.

I didn't have to go without my meds for my tests. The doctor was kind in that for me.
If the are willing to do sedation for your scope you can have the BRAVO inserted at the same time.
They will have to do the motility test and the Barium swallow on a different days because you have to drink water for the motility test and can't be sedated in any way possible for it.

Yes, the motility study is rough if you have an easy gag reflex. You just have to go Zen to get through it. I had to get my mind off of what was happening so I wouldn't fight it. You just have to focus on getting those ten perfect swallows done. As soon as that's done they pull it out.
It doesn't hurt except if you have a deviated septum in your nose and it very little. The numbing gel in your nose helps.

I talked with the nurse coordinator and that is what she said, but maybe they wont do all of them I dont know.   I am waiting for a packet to come in the mail.     Maybe they wont do them all.     Your right, it is kind of redundent to do both those tests if they do the same thing.   Maybe I will call and question her about it.

I dont know how they are going to do this because they are doing a scope and these other tests, but did say I would need to come down to get the wire out the next day.  hmmm    Not too happy about this.   Not knowing what is going on, but need to get this checked.

The packet will explain it better. The nurse might not know which one you're doing.
If you have any questions for me ask away.

I found out today the scope will be done under light sedation.   I still didnt get my packet in the mail from the hospital so guess I will just have to wait.     Something I dont like to do.

I did ask if anyone canceled   I would like to get this done sooner but nobody canceled.

I am having the manometry done too.     I think you just have to concentrate on just swallowing once when they tell you too.   At least that is what some others have said.

I dont know for sure what other tests.   I am having the Bravo, and probably the one where they put the wire in your nose for 24hrs that is the one I dont know about.    I do have some pain meds left over from my surgery so can maybe put myself to sleep  LOL.

I am worried about not taking my meds 10 days before these tests.

What tests are you having done?

My bravo was done under sedation.
You can't have sedation during the manometry test. Any type of sedative (even light) will affect the responses causing you to give the wrong readings.
I didn't know what the test was. My doctor just told me to come to the hospital at such and such time and to have an empty stomach.
They squirted numbing gel in my nose and gave me a cup of water with a straw to sip on to help to tube to go down. As it enters your esophagus you feel like your going to throw up. It eases some when they lay you down slightly for the readings. You just have to focus your mind on a happy place to get through it. Try not to fight them.
What I do to distract myself is focus on holding my hands together. The more nervous I am the tighter I grip my hands together. It sounds kinda weird, but it helps distract me. I kinda zone out.
