I have done a search in Google for anxiety and GERD and found this site. Now because my symptoms are kinda different from what the other posters have said, I am going to post my concerns and symptoms here in this new thread.

{NOTE: I have an issue with over explaining things and over analyzing things and currently my anxiety is up, so bare with me. I also tend to miss things in describing stuff so feel free to ask. Lastly, this is pretty long, so again, bare with me.}

First off, I have been diagnosed with General Anxiety. The anxiety that I have is usually caused by triggers, though if I don't have my anxiety medicine, I feel like a scared rabbit. So, I guess I would say that I have a constant anxiety which is worsened by triggers.

I also have general depression, which I think is linked to the anxiety, I don't know if that is an issue or not, but I thought I would put that in here just in case.

Anxiety related symptoms when my pills aren't working: Feeling on edge, Increased Fight or flight, depression, mind goes blank, or hard to answer questions (though I am usually a slow thinker, not unintelligent, just slow thinker)

I have had these anxiety symptoms for at least 15 years which is a shoot off of ADD diagnosed when I was rather little. I am 29 now.

Last year, I started having problems with decreased energy at work. This got progressively worse to the point when I couldn't do anything to stress my body or mind with out either becoming weak physically or start getting confused. This cost me my job, because I couldn't perform tasks without problems. At another point, I was being yelled at by someone I knew (personal and doesn't matter here) and the yelling made me so weak in the body and so weak in the mind (I had trouble forming words) that when I had my girlfriend at the time pick me up, she described me as asking drunk, because I was having trouble with balance and slurring words. When I say I was feeling confused, I mean feeling lightheaded and knowing where I was but only in a way that surroundings seemed familiar and felt like I was in a bubble, like things were going on around me, but it wasn't processing fast enough to be an alert individual.

I was also having problems with fast movement making me feel nauseous. This included driving and even simulated movement in First Person Shooters, like Doom. I also had loose very dark (but not black) stool and went to the bathroom 2-4 times a day. I had Cat scans of my lower digestive tract and pelvis and no bleeding was seen, as this was one of the concerns. My stomach was also causing me problems pain wise. And I was having bloating, I believe and I was burping a LOT.

Well, I went to an Upper GI doctor and had the tube down my throat and he said that I had allergy cells in my throat and it was all in my stomach. I started taking this steroid and AcipHex and I was feeling better to the point that yelling doesn't cause me to go weak at the knees, or cause me to become confused. And I can drive and play First Person Shooters, like Doom again.

I, however, can not do anything like hard labor for more than hour with out becoming weak and confused. I went started a job in retail and I was unpacking and sorting things from boxes that was shipped to the store, and after an hour, I started getting weak and confused and thus couldn't continue with the day and had to leave. I later was organizing stuff on the shelves and just helping customers, but only lasted about 3 hours before becoming weak and confused. I tried cashiering and didn't last 2 hours before I was starting to become confused and had to stop. This cost me my second job, and I only lasted 2 weeks.

I am also having more problems with a sore throat and increased BMs, which are normal, but happen suddenly and I must go now or I am going to soil my pants type thing.

This is very stressful for me because I can't get a sit down job, because of the high unemployment rate and my only experience being in retail.

This ties in with stress, because as I am not taking the Prolosec (which I am now being prescribed), due to lack of funds of the household). I realized right when I was going to call the HR department of the company previously mentioned and I suddenly became extremely scared, short of breath, shaky, confused, physically weak, with a sudden attack of a BM.

Right now I am still feeling kinda shaky and slightly lightheaded.

Now, for those that think that I am having allergies, I went to an allergist, and tested for allergies from food and environment. On a scale of 0-5 everything was either a 0 or a 1. Though I think that I was feeling rather itchy over one of the wheat bread ones when I was leaving, but the allergist ignored my claims and I left for that day.

I bring up GERD, because it has been brought up by both my Physical Care Physician and my therapist. My therapist also mentioned a link between GERD and anxiety showing me links and stuff on the internet and it is further confirmed that they are linked in my mind by going to this site.

My questions are:

Am I describing symptoms of GERD?

Could my general anxiety be causing me to have these problems?

Is this weakness a symptom of GERD?

I was at a friend's wedding and when I did a slow dance with my gf, I feel in love, forgetting everything and when I would normally be feeling weak and lightheaded, I was dancing and doing everything I used to do with no problem, though I left the wedding still in love. Though the next day I was physically drained and very tired, like I hiked all day and night the previous day. The next couple days after I was progressively feeling less exhausted but still in need of rest. Is this proof of the Anxiety/GERD mix?

I haven't been OFFICIALLY diagnosed with GERD, could this be something else? If so, what?

What can I do to help my situation?

Good Evening,

It feels to me like you are describing anxiety sx. We have a great anxiety and a depression forum if you would like to post your concerns there.

To verify if you have GERD you really need to see a GI physician again. You said you were not taking the medications prescribed by the physician; "I am not taking the Prolosec (which I am now being prescribed)" This medication is OTC and I feel it would benefit you to find a way to purchase this for health reasons.

Here is the link for anxiety sx:

Anxiety Symptoms, Anxiety Attack Symptoms (Panic Attack Symptoms), Symptoms of Anxiety:

I am glad you are seeing a therapist and please do talk about ways to control your anxiety. Remember you have anxiety, anxiety does not have you.

Kindly,

Kitt

You mention a posssible reaction to wheat which the allergiest ignored... Have you tried going wheat free for several weeks? It's tough, but try it out, too.
